The FAWNSKIN FLYER Volume 1 Issue 1 July 1, 2005

Issue 1p
Not Necessarily News for Fawnskin, California
Priceless, but pay two bits (.25) & take it home!

Fawnskin Flyer
Okay, I’ve been talking about doing something like this for months. Every week I am amazed by how much happens around town. Now, if you want to get the scoop, you can pick it up in print.

I hope you will call the tip line and keep us informed of the latest and greatest scuttlebutt and news around town. It is anonymous and there are no promises that you will get in print or that you will stay out of it!

While I am at it, we accept no responsibility what-so-ever for anything we include. You’ll make it as good as you want it on the real news but otherwise I am not going to tell you who our stringers are, nor will I reveal sources. We won’t be malicious–but we will be interesting.

This rag will go where it will. It isn’t meant to be taken seriously but rather to be fun and useful to visitors or locals.

Hopefully, it will pay for itself. If you want to sponsor an issue or buy a small ad you can. It won’t be anything fancy, but it will be cheap! Just give Guerrero Ink a call (800) 818-7387 if you are interested–or better yet write a check!

Thanks for your support!

TOWN TIPS
Public restrooms are located in the triangle area of town. Look for the deer statues and you’ll find the facilities in the building nearby.

Fawnskin Flyer Tipline:

Motorcycle Madness
We’ve heard lots of scuttlebutt over the past few weeks regarding the “coming soon” of Hog’s Haven Chopper Shop.

Rumors have been flying so I called Richard Cisneros, the proprietor. He kindly left his number in the window on the front of his shop. Geez, that was hard.

The scoop is that the place needed new electrical and it has already been signed off by the Fire Marshall.
Now he is waiting for an inspection by county building and safety and hopes to open in a few more weeks.
Richard said he wants to see more commerce in Fawnskin. A resident of this community for over twelve years, he plans to open and sell motorcycle apparel and accessories. Eventually he would like to provide repair and sales of choppers. He was a mechanic and worked in auto repair and sales previous to this venture.
He wants to create a good little business for himself and invites you to call him directly with any questions or concerns at (909) 800-5910.

Antique Action
Did you know that Carol and Ernie are getting ready to expand? Most locals know this friendly duo live on the premises. Escrow on a new home nearby is scheduled to close in the next couple of weeks. They will then expand their shop after they move into their new abode.

If you have not visited their little antique shop–get in there now! You won’t believe the beautiful pieces or how much they pack into that little place.

Carol says she plans to bring in a wider selection of goods so the place will appeal to a broader group of antique enthusiasts. The store already has a loyal following and you should make it a monthly stop. (They often reward you for stopping in with a tasty sweet.) I wonder how they are going to handle the long commute from a block away!

Munching at the Moose
One of the best things my neighbor did for me was to make me join Moose Lodge 2085. (Technically, I am a “Woman of the Moose.”) This little community center reminds of the pubs in my local haunts back when I lived in England…just American style.

I am always amazed at the scuttlebutt that goes around town and is spread by people who have never even set foot in the place. The gang at the Moose is really friendly and when anyone ever needs anything they always seem to come through.

Did you know that the Multiple Sclerosis people are coming out to meet our local Moose gang? Why? Because Lodge 2085 raised an enormous amount of money for their first attempt ($50,000). The leadership for the MS Walk wants to learn how they did it. Good job!

How did they do it? I believe it is those big hearts backed up by hard work and generosity.

Okay, so once in a while someone needs to remember their P’s and Q’s and there are a few party animals in town–but hey, nobody is perfect.

Anyway, if you are not a member join today. You’ll find out a lot about the organization and the works they do around town and nationally.

Make sure you don’t miss the annual yard sale starting July 2, 2005. If you have a donation call 866-3013 and arrange to drop it by.

Finally, don’t miss the FABULOUS BBQ on July 2, 2005. The boys slow cook pork and beef roasts and you can’t get such a yummy meal anywhere else for the price. Your meal also helps fund other causes. For those of you who don’t know, you have to be a member or the guest of one to get inside (except for a few community events).

July 30-31, 2005
Get your Fawnskin finery ready for the annual Doo Dah Parade and the Fawnskin Festival.
One thing about Fawnskin, everybody is up for getting silly and you don’t get much sillier than the Doo Dah Parade. Sheesh!

Last year the “Shady Ladies of the Big Bear Moose” won the trophy. They creatively outfitted themselves in finery and lampshades!

No telling what will happen this year. On Sunday, the Fawnskin Festival will host vendors, provide entertainment and fun behind the Moose Lodge. Don’t miss the animal blessing and the precious pet contest!

Bad Behavior
Guess you can’t always have peace in paradise. Fawnskin usually takes care of their own but lately the sheriff has visited a few times.

Contractors violated the penal code noise ordinance (after violating numerous county code violations). Earlier the super trespassed to threaten a Fawnskin resident. (Avoid hiring the guys–just take a gander at the sign on the construction site across the street from the Northshore Tavern.)

The other incidents included an altercation in town (I know ALL the locals have heard at least one of the four story versions.) where someone got hauled off to jail. The moral? Be nice to the deputies and read the sheriff’s log!

Finally, Fawnskin residents were the unfortunate victims in a property sale. It was nasty business when the new owners arrived. Witnesses say it was ugly. Speculation exists as to why the situation got so out of hand. They need to know that bad behavior doesn’t fly here because you need to get along with your neighbors–especially if you want them to look after you!

Last Minute Addition:
