GG’s Notes
Wow, can you believe this warm weather? The birds and the bugs are acting like it is spring. I am praying that we get some precipitation. If not, I suspect savvy locals will be driving around with fire evacuation supplies on a daily basis!
A lot is going on around here as usual. After much speculation and gossip, I am happy to confirm that the Fawnskin Market is really in escrow. Drop by to see Doris before escrow closes and be sure to plan on attending the blowout party when the sale is final.

Oh my darling Valentine…errr, Clementine? Don’t forget to make plans with that special someone for this Valentine’s Day. Both the Moose Lodge and the North Shore Café are putting on the Ritz with some fabulous dinners.

Don’t forget to drop me a line with your news. I’ve been very busy but am having a wonderful time living a balanced life for a change!

Fawnskin Market in Escrow
When I first moved to town I didn’t know much about the Fawnskin Market–except that Doris was a force to be reckoned with! What I discovered was that Doris is a “salt of the earth” veteran resident of the mountain.

The place was operated by a partner who ran the store into the ground. Doris came up to salvage the place and got the debt ridden business up and running despite incredible hardship.

Today the old general store gets a lot of visitors. Campers and snow addicts drop in and adorn the porch bench to watch the lively antics of downtown Fawnskin.

Lots of locals have speculated about the old store and many have inquired about purchasing it. When I asked Doris if she was for sale (sometime back) she said no. BUT she gave me the magic figure and said if someone came up and made the offer she would seriously consider it.

Last November someone discussed this figure with her and late last month put his money where his mouth is. So, on February 1, 2006 the market went into escrow.

The buyer is from down the hill and will be closing the store for renovation once escrow closes.

For now, drop on by and chat with Doris. She is looking forward to moving to a warmer area but says she will miss the great people she has met and knows up here on the mountain.

Has Spring Sprung?
The willows are budding, bugs are buzzing and the birds are busy frolicking and building nests! Even some of our hummingbird pals have returned to the area already…and it is only early February.

I’ve been seeing people boating and a multitude of interesting wildlife (non-human) out on the lake. Be sure to grab those binoculars and check out the waterfowl. I’ve seen a couple different species of wood duck, geese, and mergansers during my morning ambles. What I have NOT seen are the scarce coyotes and eagles. How about you?
