A Pirate’s Life for Guest Author

Thanks for the notes. I’ve been busy with my business and other projects and so have not been posting. The next issue of the flyer is due out shortly so keep your eyes open…it should be a hoot. It will also be the first year anniversary!

If you think the age of pirating is over, think again. Big Bear recently survived an invasion by pirates and a ship to shore battle. Be advised that pirate expert and gunner, Gail Selinger will invade Edelweiss Books on July 2, 2006. The bookstore is located at 40804 Village Drive in Big Bear Lake, California and will detain the famous author from Noon until 3pm.

Gail Selinger is a lifelong pirate enthusiast. An expert gunner, she regularly participates in the annual Tall Ships Festival in Dana Point. She is also a member of the Port Royal Privateers. The pirate re-enactors regularly appear in movies, at pirate encampments and at renaissance fairs.

Selinger is the author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Pirates and one of the few acknowledged national pirate experts featured on the History Channel’s documentary, True Caribbean Pirates.

When asked about modern pirating Selinger said, “Piracy has never been—and will probably never be—wiped out. Pirate attacks spiked dramatically in the 1980’s and 1990’s with the advent of modern seaborne technologies…”

Gail’s appearance coincides with the latest wave of interest in pirates. Disneyland recently refurbished the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and reopened the Pieces of Eight shop to coincide with the new wave of interest in privateers and the release of the movie, Dead Man’s Chest scheduled to open at local theatres on July 7, 2006.

Families are invited to drop by Edelweiss Books to meet this modern day buccaneer and obtain an autographed copy of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Pirates. For more information call Edelweiss Books at (909) 866-7734.
