Fawnskin’s Breaking News

NSIA Potluck
As usual there was lots of laughter at the NSIA potluck. This month was the first time we took advantage of the great weather to meet at Captain John’s Marina.

Jim Lyons was the guest speaker. His heartfelt sentiments and experiences with Search & Rescue were appreciated by all. Most did not have any idea of the awards he has received. The talent and dedication shared throughout the Big Bear Valley always amazing me.

Anyway, their team needs about six more members so if you want to lend your talent and time to the group, they meet the third Monday of the month at the Courthouse.

Friends of Fawnskin
The BIG breaking news is that the Friends of Fawnskin learned today that they won the court battle against the development at Cluster Pines aka Marina Point. The judge issued a twelve page judgment today. Congratulations on a job well done.

This is a precedent setting case and although they will appeal, the track records of such actions are not good. In the meantime, the group is fundraising to fight the next round. The developer must pay 1.3 million dollars and correct damage done to the wetlands. Stay tuned to local news media for updates.

Moon Camp has changed their original plans to establish 93 residences and proposal to move the highway. The reduction down to 50 dwellings also calls for a new EIR (environmental impact report) so keep your eyes out for public comment estimated to be within six months or so.

Doo Dah & More
Todd & Kathy Murphy put out a call for those who would like to enter their group, float or menagerie in this year’s Doo Dah parade. Contact Kathy at Fawnskin Realty. The parade will take place on the 29th of July.

Discovery Gala
Fawnskin has a few tables for the Pointer Sister’s fundraising performance at the Discovery Gala. Tickets are $100 per person. Contact Todd Murphy to reserve your spot.

Something Fishy at the Moose Lodge
Drop by the lodge to enroll in the fishing tournament on June 24, 2006. The leadership will be out fishing for the trendsetting whopper. The person who catches the fish closest to the weight of the “catch of the day” will win. $10 is the entry fee. Drop by the lodge to sign up today. The rumor that they will be serving up the fish caught in the tournament is untrue. It is true that they will serve fish for dinner.

BTW: Did you get to see any of the archers spearing carp yesterday? I got to watch a few. Over 7,000 or so pounds of carp were removed from the lake. Today, my walking partner and I spent time picking up debris and trash left on the shoreline by irresponsible visitors. Yuck.

Road Closure
Just a reminder that the road between the dam and Boulder Bay (South Shore) will be closed to traffic Wednesday and Thursday this week to finish the final stages of the repairs from the fuel spill.

Arrastre Fire
By now you know the fire has been totally contained. Good job!
