Fire Burning on a Smoke Free Morning

Above: Another photo of the Butler Fire II last night from So Cal Mountains.

Another nice morning in the Big Bear Valley–except for the fire and the disconcerting view of all the smoke. Fortunately for us, the smoke was blowing out of the valley yesterday. It is clear here at the moment and we hope it stays that way.

Last night a ton of traffic was coming through Fawnskin. I heard that the incident command center moved down to Snow Valley. You can see some of the vehicles from the web cam at the base area (posted link yesterday).

My pals called me from Bear City and said they were watching the fire. Here I could only see the smoke highlighted by the flames and got a better view from the Snow Valley Web Cam

If you want to see the topo map with the fire area (as of last night) you can see this topo map of the Butler Fire II at So Cal Mountains.

I was out snooping around on the web this am and if you have not seen the Bear Valley Community Plan released earlier this year it is on the web in PDF format. You’ll need Adobe Acrobat reader to view it.

I am debating about whether I want to OD on films at the Big Bear International Film Festival today. In the past I have watched films until my eyes were really red. I love independent and foreign films–so to have the film festival in our own backyard is a great thing.

Speaking of that, Vern at Village Theaters has been bringing up independent, art, and overlooked movies in his Film Showcase. Please get out and support this venue to keep these types of films coming to the area!

We went to view the Film Showcase film, Waitress and it was a delight. The music film Once is playing (view the trailer).

Forgot to let you know, the Butler Fire II is currently estimated to have burned 1400 acres at 0% containment.
