Landon Orcutt Remains Found in Big Bear

You probably already heard that the body of Landon Orcutt was found near the Big Bear Dam September 6, 2007 by a hiker and his dog. Landon went missing in July 2006 and skeletal remains were brought back to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in Big Bear.

We saw the search off the highway shortly after. Homicide assisted in the investigation and a search of the area was conducted. Additional remains were recovered and further searches of the area utilizing Search and Rescue members from the Big Bear Station were reported as planned.

Dental records assessed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner Division has confirmed the skeletal remains belonged to Landon Orcutt. An autopsy will assist investigators in determining the cause of death.

Orcutt was missing since July 2, 2006 after he left a message for his church pastor saying that he was going to Big Bear with the intention of taking his own life. Orcutt’s empty vehicle was found five days later in the Village area.

On the 10th the Orcutt family was in Big Bear as they had planned to be in the area for the weekend. Reports are that they were sad but relieved to have closure.
