Highway 18 to Open Again Today

I’ve been out before 6am and in after 8pm so I think the next post won’t be until Sunday–maybe Saturday if I have a break.

You probably already heard that Highway 18 between Big Bear and Running Springs is to open today at Noon. That should make commuters from Big Bear happier. Both fires are 100% contained and we hope they get under control soon–it will probably take weeks before things calm down. If we get some wet weather we will be lucky.

For those suffering from business loss due to the fire or road closures the SBA (Small Business Association) will be at the National Orange Show Fairgrounds in San Bernardino through Saturday, or you can contact SBA at 800-659-2955, or online at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance.

The buzz is that you should contact FEMA at 800-621-3362 prior to applying with the SBA.

San Bernardino National Forest Will Remain Closed Until Significant Rain or Snow
You might remember earlier in the year when I was a bit miffed over how campfires were still being allowed in the forest. It took several major fires to get the closure to finally happen. Not a good thing for resort areas but I think many people will sleep easier with the closure. It isn’t a long-term solution but it will work for now especially since things are so dry and the fire reminants pose risk.

Green Valley Lake
Green Valley Lake residents are being allowed back into their community today after an early morning meeting. I have not heard anything about Running Springs or Arrowbear but the voluntary evacuation order is still in place for all areas impacted by the Slide and Grass Valley fires.
