Me & My Shadow

Above: Shadow smiles for the camera!

Tuesday found me ambling around Fawnskin again. This time with Shadow–who belongs to one of my neighbors. After having two dogs in boot camp for a month I was having withdrawals on the dog hiking side–so she offered me access to Shadow.

Shadow is a big strong dog and I’ve known her since the day she was born. (Remember my puppy therapy posts?) Anyway, we hooked up with Andi and Midnight and took a stroll.

Part of our adventures including discovering that the NS Tavern parcel has been subdivided–which we all already knew–but also that the actual restaurant parcel is up for sale now, too.

The lease sign remains in place but the liquor license posting is down and it doesn’t look like there has been any other activity. I heard the snoop sisters have an inside connection to get the real story–hopefully they will have an answer when I get back.

Later during our stroll, we discovered the NSIA gardening gang hard at work outside of the Old Miller School House. (Darn, didn’t take my camera!) Eminger’s Nursery donated a ton of plants and they were making sure they got into the ground.

Some great thinker actually put up a barrier gate to prevent access to the path into the park. Most of us locals stroll through the park on our way into town. Now you have to squeeze through the little gap, try and make it through the playground, or tromp through the narrow channel on the side of the basketball courts.

How about those who are disabled–honestly they have no idea how the park has been used…yes improvements are nice but aren’t we supposed to have clear access to the community park instead of being barred? It will probably be mess during the winter with snow and ice.

Maybe they joined forces with the OTHER park owner…(did I really just say that?)

During the gardening activities we talked about how we’ve turned the water off up here and Sister Annette suggested watering once or twice a month ONLY into December because it is so dry. Hopefully we will get some rain or snow but it might do our plants good to get a little dribble. I do have one spigot we leave on through the winter so I might sprinkle some of the trees and plants.

Chris wanted everyone to know that the excess funds from the Fire Fighters Appreciation Dinner are going directly to the fire victims–so I was glad to hear that. Didn’t ask how much but remember there is another fundraiser coming up in early December at the Bowling Barn.

The Moose Lodge 2085 fundraiser for the Fire Fighters’ Auxilary raised over $3,000. The bake auction is always a big boost to any fundraising activity around these parts.

Sister Annette also wanted to remind Fawnskin residents about the annual Christmas Party on December 10th at 6:00pm at the Old Miller School House. Bring a potluck dish and a present (or white elephant gift) worth $10 or less. It usually is a good time.

I am still out of town but will be back next week!
