@Shadow's Mom: Thanks for the tip. Dave actually called here and I'll be chatting with him in a week or so.
@Georgia: Thanks for the tip. I hope to talk with Dave after I recover a bit from the shock of Paul's death.

Shadow's Mom is correct. However there were a mistake in the Grizzily - the dog had been seen beginning around Thanksgiving in the east end of the valley but Dave didn't start feeding him until 1/17, shortly after we started seeing him in China Gardens. (I'm a neighbor of Dave's.) The process of gaining Buck's confidence has been slow and Dave had just gotten the dog to come within 30 feet of him - quite an accomplishment since a car couldn't even stop on Sandalwood 100 yards away without Buck bolting and running in the opposite direction. But now the hardest part begins - rehabilitating the dog.

Apparently the dog that was rescued was a stray. There is an article in the Grizzly. David Younkin had been feeding the dog since Thanksgiving, but the dog would not let anyone get close. Younkin called the dog Buck. He is a VCA.
