@HG: Welcome to the big debate around these parts. Fawn Park got nicknamed, "Marty's Playground" by locals before the first anniversary of its closure. I keep wondering how the non-profit avoids an audit and why nobody has turned it in to the Attorney General. My opinion is if you are going to have a private park--say so--but taking money saying the park is for the community and then keeping it closed is shameful.
@Uncle Bill: Yep, I used to drop in and shoot pool while enjoying that big old fireplace. The remodel was a disaster and the layout is horrible. There have been lots of problems with NS Tavern starting with the rebuilding to interference with lessees. JP has not called me back so despite the recent clean up and construction I am not holding my breath.

I remember leaving L.A. late on Friday afternoons hurrying to get to the North Shore Tavern in time for dinner and a few hours of cocktails, sitting around the piano listening to Bud Parmalee play old standards and Dottie occasionally singing an old chestnut with a voice that was truly unique and compelling. Those were fun times but they are gone.

The fire that destroyed that historic old structure was unfortunate, but by then the place had already seen its best days. What has replaced it is a building altogether different, and I can't imagine anyone with a modicum of business sense thinking they could make even a moderate success of another restaurant in that location. Not in these times.

Really GG!
I can't believe the audacity of some people! How do they have the face to keep collecting donations for Fawnskin park and keep it closed! It is such a shame! Why can't they play nice?! Big "rasberries" to them!

I looked up "park" in Merriam- Webster's online dictionary. One of thier definitions was 1a) an enclosed piece of ground stocked with game and held by royal prescription or grant - kind of sounds familiar!
