Big Bear Fishing Report

Big Bear Fishing Report by Alan Sharp of Big Bear Marina

Rainbow trout fishing took a turn for the worse this past week. Low oxygen levels from the dam to Windy Pt. and high water temperatures from Windy Pt. to the east ramp shut down the bite, as the fish struggle to find cool, oxygenated water. A few fish came in for bait anglers working Windy Pt. and the Observatory. Slip bobbing dough baits and night crawlers at 18 feet is the only way to go. Trollers going down three and a half colors with Dick Nite Spoons in tow also picked up some fish between Lagonita Pt. and the Observatory.

The whisker fish are still on the bite in the east end. Catfish from five to fifteen pounds hit the scales this week. Fish off the bottom with a #4 baitholder hook below a sliding egg sinker with shrimp, mackerel, or stink baits atttached to get in on this awesome action.
