Big Bear Fishing Report & Troutfest

Rainbow Trout fishing continued to improve this past week on Big Bear Lake. Water temperatures are uniform from top to bottom and the lake will eventually turnover as night time temperatures continue to cool. Oxygen levels have improved as an algae bloom has pumped more oxygen into the water during the day.
The trout have stayed down in the western third of the lake and did not migrate east as anticipated. Lead core trollers going down to 3 colors have seen fish to 2 and a half pounds. Needlefish in nickel and brass bikini have gotten the majority of the fish, with the red and gold Buoyant doing well also. Bait anglers with slip bobbers rigged at fifteen to twenty feet with Nitro and Nightcrawlers suspended below have also gotten in on the quality fish while anchored or drifting the lake.
It’s all about the Big Bear Troutfest when 1000 anglers hit the waters of Big Bear Lake in search of trophy sized trout. The tagged fish is worth a bunch along with tens of thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. Wonder what the greatest total weight of trout caught during the two day event next weekend will be? (The event is sold out.)
If you didn’t get in, come up after the event and land yourself a trophy trout. The fishing will be great for weeks to come!

You’d have to ask to find out. Doubt it but you never know!

Too bad, when my son and I are paddling around, the fish almost jump in the boats! I am not an angler, but it seems like the lake is perfect for yak fishing.
