If I Were Queen

Above: Wanting to Crown GG Can Be A Positive Statement!

So, you might have missed my commentary on Stupid Tourist Tricks and should probably read it so you get what I am saying here…

Now I have a solution to all this mess and if I were queen I’d decree the following:

First, cameras with time and date stamps would be given to all San Bernardino County Sheriff’s, California Highway Patrol, and Forestry Personnel. (In fact, concerned citizens might also be deputized simply for the purpose of capturing such data.)

These cameras would be used to snap photos of illegally parked vehicles and their license plates so that the photos could be uploaded to a central database.

All agencies could then mail tickets for violations related to illegal parking, trespassing, disregard of the California Vehicle Code, and absence of forestry permits for parking or land use.

I think this would work with a higher effectiveness than having an officer individually attempt to ticket mass violations.

Plus, the upside is that this would generate revenue that would pay for road repairs, new snow plow equipment, and additional law enforcement personnel to handle the large influx of visitors.

Funds would also pay for trash collection of the litter left behind by visitors at sites beside the roads and in the forest.

The funding would also provide for the pick up of abandoned sleds, toboggans, and other such debris.

Next, I believe that all main roads into the mountain communities should be turned into toll roads.

All residents would be allocated annual road passes because I want my subjects in this kingdom to be happy and to chant, “Long live GG!

Toll roads would generate those funds to maintain all main highways and roads so the quick repairs of pot holes and damaged roads throughout the valley would be done quickly and with quality.

Toll funds could be further used to provide and maintain public toileting facilities (and the cleaning services) to handle the large groups of people that come up to the area.

It is anticipated that it would also cut down on some of the insane traffic.

Which leads me to this question:

Why is there no limitation to how many vehicles that come up into the area?

Blocked roads and bumper to bumper traffic is not only a safety hazard but also a health hazard.

People don’t just stop in the middle of the road and leave their cars to play, they eliminate where they want–very unsanitary.

Funds could also keep more law enforcement and emergency personnel on the job to deal with stupid things such as lighting a barbecue in the bed of a pick up truck right over the gas tank …a ticketable offense in my book.

Along with the toll road I believe that a monorail system, tram, or visitor shuttle service to shuttle visitors and their gear up and down the hill to hotels and the snow sport resorts should be provided.

Park & Ride services work well in other situations–why not here?

So, are there any other things that you think I should add to my list?

Anyone have a good referral for a crown?

Oh no! Not a monorail. Visitors already think that the entire community is some sort of rustic Disneyland and that we are all just “cast members” here to ensure their enjoyment and facilitate their every whim. Witness the twenty or so folks who set up their lawn chairs on the vacant lot down from our house to watch their kids sledding on what is actually private property – though not mine, regrettably. A pox on all their houses, I say.

They block traffic down here in the Mission Bay area during holidays. Also, at least one city has a camera truck that does pretty much as you propose. I saw them used in Philadelphia for parking control.

I lived down in the SD area. It would be great if SB would use the camera trucks–didn’t know about them.

Target practice anyone? There are so many trespassers these days since the law enforcement isn’t beefed up enough during this time to handle crowd control or the massive onslaught.

Pox indeed! Actually I prefer the idea of a tram but someone told me that there were investors (twice) that were on board for constructing such a transport vehicle in conjunction with the ski resorts and hotels–but I never saw or heard of anything myself nor has anyone confirmed this rumor.
