What A Difference A Snow Plow Makes!

Above: The Chains Required Sign This Morning on Grout Creek Bridge

So everybody has been busy digging out. I thought it was amusing to see all the people down-the-hill who ignored the CHP roadblocks and then got stuck in the snow on the highways.

Looks like the flatlanders got to get a minor glimpse of what we have to deal with on an almost daily basis up here during the winter...some cars began to run low on gasoline and others suffered mechanical difficulties. Many motorists were without food, water, or sufficient heat. Read more at RimoftheWorld.Net

This week was no exception because of the people ignoring the chain directives. I was glad to hear that citations were being given to those who did not have chains in their vehicles or on their tires.

If fined for not carrying chains the ticket is $108.

Big rig and bus incidents closed the highways for hours and Fawnskin Folks are not too happy about all the traffic that is being directed through our quiet little town as a result.

Above: Some of the traffic over Grout Bridge in Fawnskin this am.

Most vehicles don’t stop (they tend to speed through town–hint, hint to the CHP). The Boulder Bay businesses take a hit when the road is closed because they do get some commerce.

The upside? Snow sport conditions should be super.

In the meantime, locals shared some of the foolish visitor stories at the Fawnskin Post Office this am. Funny how such things are good entertainment after you have been locked in a cabin for days in a row.

Despite our “grumping” over such antics we locals tend to help ’em out.

My favorite story was about the people came up the mountain without supplies and without proper attire. The car load didn’t know where they were and were surprised to see a lake near the highway.

They just wanted to see the snow.

Oy!

They could have just walked up the Cajon Pass!

One of the new residents was complaining about the unplowed streets–listen up–when the snow dumps so heavily the focus is on keeping the main roads open so we can get supplies. The county knows that there is a problem and is working on it.

Although I didn’t take any pictures to embarrass the dummies unfortunates, there were a lot of cars and trucks stuck in the deep drifts because they didn’t use common sense to stay put at home when the conditions were so bad.

However I always enjoy seeing the guys with the snowmobiles getting out and having a blast. They don’t get to ride around too often but it sure circumvents all the deep snow issues!

Just a gentle reminder–if you let your pets out you can be sure that they will just walk over (or hop) the top of any perimeter fences. Keep an eye on the critters and make sure to have current identification on the pups in case they escape.

In other news, there was a break in at the US Post Office on the other side of the lake. Many Postal Boxes were damaged and mail was pushed out onto the floor.

This is a Federal Offense and the investigation is underway.

If you are a subscriber (see the box on the upper right) I am sending out a list of people who can help you clear your driveway should you need help. To get it you need to sign up via email.
