Road Work & Fredalba Garden

Down in the Fredalba area of Running Springs the news is that the flower field, so popular with locals, will be closing forever in just a few weeks.

The garden was created (and still is financed) by Gene and Dale Bauer in 1957 and will again open to the public on March 28th from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily every day until 6 p.m. on April 12, 2009 when it will close for good.

If you have not seen the garden–get over there. Parking is available at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at 30480 Fredalba Road in Running Springs.

You can read more about the Fredalba garden at RimoftheWorld.Net or check out these daffodil garden photos.

Find the official daffodil garden story by Bauer, read the inspirational story called the Daffodil Principle, or see correspondent Rick’s Fredalba Garden photos.

Big Bear Dam

The dreaded road work in preparation for the new bridge is underway.

You’ve probably already noticed the new stop signs (and the tons of other signs leading up to them from both directions) at the Big Bear bridge and the temporary cement rails that narrow the area to two lanes and keep the workers safe.

The new bridge work will be underway for several years and it will be interesting to see how this will effect the traffic during peak times.

In the meantime, don’t run those new stop signs!
