Big Bear Fire Chief Selected
The Big Bear Lake Fire Protection District Board has finally selected someone as Big Bear Lake Fire Department Chief.

Rod Ballard is expected to begin service in mid-April and possesses more many years of emergency service experience that includes twenty-eight years as part of the City of San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and four years as their Deputy Fire Chief.

Ballard has many other qualifications including service as incident commander, branch director, group supervisor, division leader, and strike team leader on multiple alarm and complex fire emergencies. He is also a Fire Instructor III and teaches at the community college level.

Recently, Ballard was accepted to the Leadership in Crisis, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University in 2009.

The man has many other credentials and credits and we want to welcome him to the community.

Thanks should also go to Mark Mills (Assistant Fire Chief) who has been filling in during the interim.

Big Bear Library
The Big Bear Library will close this Thursday, April 2nd for remodeling and is expected to reopen at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22nd.

The library will get new carpeting, a coast of fresh paint, and a new security system.

In addition, the Big Bear Library will also be updated with a new circulation desk and self-checkout stations.

Patrons will be excited to learn that additional public computers will also be added and the Friends of the Library will have a new book store.
