Big Bear Fishing Report by Alan Sharp

Quality trout from 4 to 6 pounds continue to hit the scales on Big Bear Lake! Bait anglers and trollers are all getting in on the action this week.

The bait anglers are getting good results with PowerBait and nightcrawlers fished off the bottom or suspended at 20 feet from Juniper Pt. to the dam along the North Shore.

Trollers fishing leadcore at 4 colors with Needlefish, Rapalas, and Bouyants in fire tiger, and cooper finishes in tow are on the fish too.

Water temperatures and oxygen levels are good. Temperatures range from 58 degrees at the dam to 63 degrees at Juniper Pt. with plenty of oxygen top to bottom.

More large trout will be stocked this coming weekend as a tagged fish will be worth $50,000.00.

Largemouth Bass continue to hit spinners and spoons along the shoreline, crappie are active in the East end, and the catfish bite should go off soon.

Father and son Ray and Elias Ramirez of Big Bear Lake had a great day on the water.

Big Bear Lake has a new trout tournament this year. “Fishin’ for $50K” will be held May 30-31, 2009.

i find your report very misleading, i’ve been fishing up there 3 times this year for a total of 8 days of fishing and have caught nothing! this is the worst i’ve seen it up there and i know several anglers who will agree!!

Maybe you should try some different techniques or locations. Alan has a lot of photos with people who are successful. At the moment the water is pretty even in temperature and the fish are scattered–many are not biting because they are also fed up.
