Record Breaking Rainbow Trout

Memorial Day Weekend resulted in some big fish stories–and record breaking catches.

Erin Dominguez of Trabuco Canyon caught a 32 inch 18.69 pound rainbow trout (which beats the 14.69 pound trout record set in 1995).

Erin caught the fish near the dam using a nightcrawler.

Record Breaking Catfish

Kevin Bremer of Fontana brought in a 27.82 pound catfish which broke the previous catfish record set last year of 27.03.

Kevin caught the record breaking catfish off Gilner Point using a hot dog as bait!”

On May 30-31, 2009 Fishin for $50Kbrought 720 anglers to Big Bear Lake. All attempting to hook that one tagged trout worth $50,000.00, more news to follow..

As Big Bear Lake recording breaking holders for largest catfish and trout. Erin and Kevin will receive a Shakespeare rod and reel combo, PowerBait and a 2 hour pontoon rental from Berkley and Big Bear Marina.

A lot of large trout that were raised in pens over the winter have been released and are being caught from boat and shore on PowerBait and nightcrawlers.

Trollers are finding the trout at 3 to 4 colors with assort Needlefish and Rapalas behind.

Small and Largemouth Bass are beginning to nest all around the lake and can be taken on crankbaits, spinners and spoons along the shoreline. Crappie are active in the East end of the lake and being caught on Gulp Waxies and meal worms.
