Busy Weekend for Fawnskin

This weekend Fawnskin resident, Nancy Walker will perform in “A Tribute to the Grand Ole Opry” at the Big Bear Lake Discovery Center Amphitheatre on July 11th.

Nancy will perform with her friend, local vocalist, Beth Gardner, accompanied by a 5 piece country band including renowned pedal steel guitarist Rick Schmidt and the great fiddle player from L.A., Chris Woods.

Local musicians include “Pianoman” Mike Cross on piano, Terry Copley on bass, and Steve Boggio on drums, of Catz in the Hats fame.

Songs will include those from Minnie Pearl, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Johnny and June Carter Cash, Martina McBride and Trisha Yearwood.

Tickets are $20 and available online at the Discovery Center.

Saturday & Sunday July 11-12, 2009
The second annual Big Bear PaddleFest has been scheduled to take place Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, 2009.

This multi-venue event will take place on Big Bear Lake’s north shore and will culminate with a 10K paddle race and will offer pre-race-day activities on Saturday, July 11th which will include on-water clinics, boat demos and an outdoor-industry sports exhibit.

The races, scheduled for Sunday, July 12th, are open to all levels of paddlers. The course is set to begin and finish at Captain John’s Fawn Harbor Marina in Grout Bay taking racers through an out and back route to the Big Bear Lake dam.

Sunday’s event will also include a raffle of prizes from Big Bear Valley area business owners. An award’s ceremony for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the female and male kayak categories as well as the canoe category will take place at the finish of the race.
