Big Bear Fishing Report by Alan Sharp

Trout fishing improved this past week. Curt Dillls of Fish Big Bear Charter Service landed 20 fish in 2 hours during a recent trip. All the fish came in during the morning at 2.5 colors of leadcore on nickel back Needlefish.

James Dzatko from Highland landed 2 catfish that weighed 11 and 19 pounds while fishing along the North shore in the evening, just west of the West Ramp. The fish bit cut mackerel, fished off of 6 pound test line.

Trolling with leadcore line or bait fishing with a slip bobber is still the most effective way to catch trout.

Oxygen levels are still good from 40 feet and up at the dam, 30 feet at Papoose, and 23 feet at the the West ramp and observatoury. With water temps holding from 67 to 68 degrees the trout can be found in all of those areas.

A large concentration of trout are staying in the area between Lagonita Pt. and Windy Pt. Clarity remains low at 5 feet as an algae bloom has turned the water green.
