Counter-Clockwise Travel During Marathon

Big Bear Marathon on Saturday, September 12, 2009 requires vehicular traffic to move counter-clockwise around the lake.

Saturday’s marathon event will require all traffic to travel counter-clockwise since the inside lane around Big Bear Lake will be closed for the race. Traffic restrictions will be in effect from 5am to about 3pm on Saturday.

All businesses will remain accessible but motorists need to exercise extreme caution when driving and crossing the course.

Law enforcement agencies will be present at key locations. Closures on Saturday will include on Sandalwood (behind the Interlaken Center) and Fox Farm.

The course will run along Stanfield Cutoff but those traffic lanes will be open in both directions.

Motorists are advised to plan for additional travel time during the marathon which will begin at Pine Knot Landing down to Sandalwood and back to Pine Knot.

Residents in the route area should have received notification from the Lighthouse Project in the mail outlining these specifics.
