Halloween Activities in Big Bear

Above: Fawnskin’s Haunted House.

It is hard to imagine that fall is upon us with winter just around the corner. Many celebrations take place on the mountain in the fall.

Halloween is a festive time for the valley. In Fawnskin, Moose Lodge 2085 holds a costume contest and party for members and their guests. For other events open to the public you’ll have to venture out of Fawnskin!

The Theater of Horrors Haunted House opens this weekend for Friday and Saturday, October 23-24, 2009 and again next weekend October 30-31, 2009 at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center (39707 Big Bear Blvd., Big Bear Lake).

This event is a cooperative project by Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley and the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center Foundation and the proceeds collected will go to Soroptimist International and back into the community.

Haunted House hours are:

  • Fridays 7 -10 pm
  • Saturday 6-10 pm (Oct. 24) and 8-10 pm (Oct. 31)

Tickets are $6 for general admission and $4 for children 6 and under. Tickets can be ordered by phone at the PAC box office (909) 866-4970 or at the door.

Halloween in the Village
One of the most popular events this time of year is the Halloween in the Village. Merchants decorate with jack-o-lanterns, cobwebs, flying bats, strobe lights, and other gadgets and gimmickry to create a “frightfully” fun experience.

The event takes place on the streets and sidewalks of Big Bear Village on October 31, 2009 from 5 until 9 pm. Street closures on Pine Knot Avenue and Village Drive will be from 4 until 9 pm

Big Bear Village businesses open their doors to pass out candy and local organizations set up booths with hot beverages and treats.

Parking will be available at the public parking area on Bartlett Avenue and the Indian Village parking lot behind the Village Mall and if you lose sight of your kid, the Lost Child Booth will be at Jack in the Box on Village Drive.

Other events taking place that evening are the Harvest Party at Big Bear Elementary School from 5 until 8 pm and Calvary Chapel of Big Bear invites others to participate in their, “Dress as your favorite Bible character“.
