Local BB News & Less Service

I find it pretty stupid that California cannot find options to the budget crisis beyond reducing hours and services in the county and other agencies.

On Monday , October 26, 2009 there will be reduced hours for the Big Bear Building and Safety offices. Big Bear Building and Safety is located at 477 Summit Boulevard and will only be open Mondays from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Mountain employees in Twin Peaks and Big Bear have received layoff notices and/or offers of other jobs off the hill.

Inspector office hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

A half an hour? Geez, they must be super inspectors–able to handle all that they need to in a half an hour.

Other Building and Safety facilities hours at the San Bernardino (385 North Arrowhead Avenue) will operate Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

So, not only do we have a issues with enforcement and compliance, we also now are making things more interesting by giving staff less hours to do things AND less access if you have an issue.

Grrreeeaaaat!

In other news…
Pete (James) Gwaltney, an aviator from Colorado has been hired as the general manager of the Big Bear Airport. Gwaltney’s first day will be on November 2, 2009.

I am surprised that ALL city employees have not received either, lay offs, wage reduction, or hour reduction. When the City Manager is given a do nothing posiition, at a obscene pay scale, there is no room left for sanity or the public need.

p.s. While I understand that County and City are seperate, my point is government only knows how to spend, and not wisely. The agency may be different, but the results are the same.

I get the point and when I watch workers that are not working when I am in line at many agencies or passing by in a vehicle I really am amazed at the inefficiency of it all.

If you take a look at ANY gov agency you will see top heavy salaries. There are wage increases that are standard whether or not they are deserved. Also, once entrenched in the gov it appears to be hard to lose your job and I see some slackers stuck in the midst of performers.

It seems a no-brainer, but apparently the Governator cannot see fit to ELIMINATE all services for ilegal aliens. If they just cut this ONE item back, there would be a LOT of savings, however, I do not know where you would find new jobs for the people who are servicing this sector of society. Yes, it is THAT big.

I think cutting the fat overall is the issue. There is a lot of inefficiency in governmental agencies plus standard raises versus merit raises. The top salaries are many, many times more than front line salaries. I am not certain that targeting specific groups as the problem is an answer and I’d like to see those statistics or estimations to which you are referring. Give us a link.

    @ Cricket;
If there were no “illegal aliens” the cost of many things would be outragous, from dining out to getting your car fixed, your lawn cut, the list could go on and on. Why? because people are too lazy. If you had ever been in a postition to hire people to fill positions you would know better. The sad fact is that bigotry makes people forget. This country was founded by illegal aliens. We are all illegal aliens and supposedly a god fearing christian country.
I believe there is a statue that encourages people to come to this country and what it was built on and stands for, you know, the Statue of Liberty.
While the governator is at it how about no services for jews or gays, or left handed people? Boy we could really save some money then!
While he is at it, maybe he could knock down the Statue of Liberty.

Too bad nobody has an opinion around these parts…heh, heh.

This brings to mind the welfare and other hand-out issues. Too many people abuse the system and with all the budget issues I am wondering if we should increase the welfare AND put those people to work on those projects and tasks that just don’t seem to get done by the government agencies.

I am guessing if many of those people on subsidy HAD to do something they would think twice about it.

Now, I’ve been through the process and got off the help pretty quickly so I know how it works. But it makes me mad when I see some people who are not looking for work just sit on their butts collecting funds and help that has been denied to others who need it.

Gone is the “Proud to be an American” mindset for many people. Today it seems more like, “How can I get a free ride because I deserve it.”
