Things that make you go hmm…

Above: Photo of Bear Mountain Ski Resort this morning.

When I heard that Bear Mountain was opening for a “snow season preview,” I realized that it has been some time since the ski resorts were able to open early.

Bear Mountain opened the Central Park run on Friday, Oct. 30th just in time for Halloween!

I just talked to someone in Oceanside who was lamenting over her need to snowboard–so I guess this will make her happy.

Locals know that when the temps drop, the ski resorts fire up their snowmaking machines and fine-tune them for the winter sport.

This innovation has allowed the resorts to open whether or not mother nature cooperates and lets the locals get their ski legs in shape early.

Ticket prices are reduced for this opening to $25 for adults, $20 for young adults and $10 for children. In addition, the Ice Box Apparel, rentals and food service will all be open.

For more information, call Bear Mountain at 909-585-2519.

Be sure to dress warm for Halloween in the Village since temps at night are low.

In other news, I was amused at the bad behavior that landed Stan Miller of Knickerbocker Mansion in jail.

Miller was being held on $50,000 bail after calling the DWP multiple times about his water bill.

The alleged threats (called “terrorism”) motivated DWP administration to notify authorities who then arrested him.

Now personal bad behavior aside, this brings to mind another thought of another utility company.

If anyone bothered to investigate at least one of the utilities in Big Bear, I wonder what would be revealed.

For instance, one of the neighbors here in Fawnskin lives here full time but since the home is not finished, pays a different  rate than other locals.

Most locals are familiar with one utilities practice of two rate structures–a locals rate and a part-time rate.

Somehow I don’t think that is legal…and there are a few other activities that I’ve experienced that I know are not legal and if reported to the utilities commission would probably get a nice investigation going.

But bad behavior aside, and questionable billing practices aside, when did we start calling local business people “terrorists?”

It seems like that term is getting abused more and more.

Now I am not making any excuses for the man but I’m just sayin’…

Things that make you go, hmm.

An average electric bill for me being a part time resident consists of:
    $12.00 actual electric usage
    $36.00 Min Electric Fee
$12.00 Service Charge for using less electricity..

Propane: Recently charged $200 fee for Low Usage…NOT using enough propane…

Makes one wonder…..why anyone would be charged for not using enough…

Yikes! Yes, I remember when I first moved up here that most of my electric bill was for service charges–something like $25 or more per month. It would be interesting to see what laws govern the utilities and if they actually stipulate that those charges are legit.
