Freezing in Fawnskin

Grout Creek Earth Day 2010

“I’m freezing!” was a common complaint over the past two days as Fawnskin got more snow AGAIN.

I shoveled about eight inches and then came back and had to walk down the snow covered stairs with another few inches of accumulation.

Fortunately the sun is out today and we are having a break before the NEXT rumored storm.

The only nice thing about this snow is that spring melt is quick.

Locals are SO ready for spring and it was pretty quiet out in town because everyone seemed to have hunkered down.

I’ve had a roaring fire going and am glad I still have some wood to bump up the heat.

The infamous sheep had snow on their backs but a local interrupted my attempts to get “live action” shots but stay tuned.

KBHR reported that average snow accumulation is usually about 62 inches and so far we’ve have roughly 127 inches of snow this season!

Snow Summit will remain open through this weekend and since it is unseasonably cold in southern California, perhaps we shall see some visitors.

I forgot that when I was told about the MS Walk figures that they always keep rising due to the constant stream of funds that are sent in late.

There were an estimated 400+ participants and the MS Walk fund-raising numbers are at $45,000 so far.

Last year, through local efforts, just over $80,000 was raised and it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

As much as I rant about small business stuff up here–I thought I’d offer up a resource for a change.

The City of Big Bear Lake has partnered with the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center and will provide free counseling and training services to local businesses.

Services will include how to write a business plan, growth strategies, marketing, QuickBooks, home-based businesses, accounting, and finding financing.

To schedule an appointment or to get more information, contact Business Consultant Louisa Miller by phone at (760) 951-1592 or by email at lmiller@iesmallbusiness.com.

Local boy, Jordan Romero has been making progress in this climb up Mt Everest and reported in on April 20, 2010. You can read more at KBHR.

Did you know that local author, Kat Blanc is working on a book about his adventures?

And now, (insert drum roll here) the biggest news of the week!

Tomorrow is my birthday–and my brother was telling me I needed to get in gear to celebrate since it is the big 5-0!

Feel free to leave tips, send gift certificates, arrange delivery of my Subaru Forester and be sure to make a big fuss over me for the next fifty days.

What? You don’t know about that rule?

The law clearly states, you MUST celebrate as many days as your are years-old.

I thought everyone knew that.

BTW Abbot Ajahn Sombat and the monks have invited all neighbors over to the Wat Dhammasujitto Meditation Center for Thai New Year at 11:30m on Sunday.

SuVee and Ajahn Sombat told me we all have to also celebrate my birthday there too.

Awesome!

Have a great weekend and hope to see you there–be sure to stay warm!
