Dam Bridge!

Dam Bridge is not a typo–just me trying to be clever and entertaining.

In case you have not heard, Highway 18 will be closed just east of the dam from July 25-30, 2010. The closure times will be continuous from Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 10pm through Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10am.

Bet Boulder Bay residents are going to be hating this for several reasons.

This temporary detour will allegedly allow for more efficient construction of the new bridge while also making room for the construction of a new retaining wall.

Allowing this multiple day closure is supposed to help facilitate the opening of the new bridge to traffic by the end of the year.

Highway 18 motorists will be directed use our Highway 38 on the North Shore through Fawnskin.

Emergency Response will have access through the work zone but people who reside within the closure have to access their residence through the east end of the closure and are urged to proceed with caution.

Electronic signage will be placed within the communities to allow motorists to make early decisions about how to get around within the communities.

Hmm, which communities would be on that list?

So what do I have to say about this–since my opinion seems to matter so much.

In a sarcastic tone…”Yeah, good luck with that.”

I got a lot of comments about the motorist who stopped in the middle of the bridge today to ask me a question.

The idiot behind the following car tried to pass on the right…can you say, “idiot!”

So, for some of you the good news is that I did not get creamed.

The bad news is that there was no cop to ticket the idiots…and, needless to say, my disdain emanated across the bridge, up and down the creek, and shook buildings in trees in the surrounding area.

Okay, maybe not–but you get the idea–I was irritated.

The local businesses that have store fronts will probably be happy about the redirection but my recent ambling up the road and across the bridge might be curtailed along with other amblers due to the motorists who will inevitably speed through town.

All I can say is that I sure hope they set up a few speed traps especially since we are one of the few places in the valley that has people walking through town.

Finally, the large changeable message signs on Highway 210 near the base of Highway 330 will NOT have any messaging about the Highway 18 closure up here–which is probably a good thing since these darn motorists have enough trouble sorting out things when their brains shut down and quit functioning due to the oxygen deprivation in the high altitude.

Okay, I have a LOT of breaking news for you but it is going to have to wait until Friday now.
