Labor Day in Fawnskin

Above: Women of the Moose members work hard for the community of Fawnskin.

It is hard to believe another holiday weekend is here.

My baby sister survived her brain surgery in Georgia and is resting nicely with the help of a good dose of morphine.

Lack of sleep and the emotional upheaval motivated me to indulge in a stiff belt of brandy last night–and I finally got some sleep.

I might even venture out into town this holiday weekend! Maybe even into Big Bear before that steady stream of cars filled with visitors arrive.

Fawnskin Festivities at Moose Lodge 2085

This weekend Moose Lodge 2085 will be busy with a lot of events.

On Saturday, September 4, 2010 from 10am until 6pm the lodge will host a community day.

The day will raise funds for Fire Station 96 and will feature Moose races, vendors, bounce house, craft and games for the kids and a car show.

Raffles will take place all day and hot dogs and hamburgers will be served on the patio for lunch.

You’ll be happy to know that 75% of all funds raised will go to the burn quest Unit and 25% for new equipment for Station 96.

All tickets are a $1.00 (but you can donate more).

Don’t miss the infamous Moose Spit BBQ which will start at 4:00pm (cost for dinner $8.00 per person).

Everyone is invited to join the fun so come down and bring a guest to support our local Fire Department.

This weekend is also infamous for all the yard sales–so come pick me up if you go!

Free Fishing
The California Department of Fish and Game is holding a free fishing day this Labor Day.

September 6, 2010 is a free fishing day in California when both residents and nonresidents can drop a line and fish all day without a sport-fishing license.

All fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect.

Although a fishing license is not needed to fish in Big Bear Lake on Monday, if you head out onto the lake a boat permit is still required.
