Do you miss GG?

Above: One of my favorite pictures of Uncle John.

So, I survived the memorial and all the family events surrounding it but I have to say I am one tired gal and am currently staying with friend in Joshua Tree.

I thought it best for me not to be alone for a while and so here I am enjoying the warmth but truth be told, I was so exhausted I slept a lot and then stayed in bed to read for a day. But I wasn’t hiding under the covers–so that is good.

One thing for sure, I am really glad I got to be with family and friends. Over 1,000 people showed up for the event that began at 1pm and extended until 6pm. My cousin and I headed over to an aunt’s home for a shot of caffeine prior to another gathering at the Olguin home later. It was a long, emotional day.

It is hard to imagine the impact one life has on another. Sometimes you can forget just what a presence can mean. You know, a ripple that expands into larger rings and heads out to parts unknown. Not to many people are so widely loved or have made such a difference in so many lives or within a community but my uncle did…and what a life well lived.

It was a trip back in time for me and a lot of notables spoke–but it was the memories that gave me comfort and made me laugh. I also had some time to make connections with friends and family. All around, it was a good thing.

So, I don’t have much news for you…only thing I’ve got is a bit about the dam project. Seriously, the Big Bear Dam cannot be completed until the weather holds steady for a while. It is estimated to need about two months more work to be finished and so far the word is that it will have to wait until spring.

But as always, don’t hold your breath!

We knew of your Uncle, saw him a few times but never actually met. Still, we sure knew who he was. The signs up last week around San Pedro were an indication of his popularity, and impact. We didn’t attend the memorial but we watched a great fireworks show from home (better than the 4th) No doubt he will be missed but few have the ability to touch so many.

Thanks for the note Paul. Yes, he made a huge impact on a global scale and he will be missed.

His ‘footprint’ left on this earth will Memorialize him forever. He was a good man with a passion for the sea. He did so much to awaken awareness to the creatures of the sea. He will truly be missed and never forgotten. I’m sad for our loss. God Bless him and those who will carry on his work.
