Bald Eagle Count

bald eagle census

This weekend will be the final bald eagle count of the season. It takes place tomorrow (Saturday, March 12, 2011). No experience is necessary to be a part of the 32nd annual eagle census if you would like to participate.

Bald Eagle Census volunteers will be stationed at different vantage points around the local mountain lakes in order to map and note any eagle observations during a one hour period.

Census volunteers should bring binoculars, a watch and dress warmly. Concurrent bald eagle counts will be held at Big Bear Lake, Lake Arrowhead, Silverwood Lake, Lake Perris State Park Recreation Area and Lake Hemet.

Bald eagle count volunteers for the Big Bear Lake area should arrive at the Big Bear Discovery Center on North Shore Drive by 8:00 am for instructions while volunteers for the Lake Arrowhead area should arrive at the Skyforest Ranger Station on Highway 18 by 8:00am.

For more information on volunteering in the Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead areas, please call Marc Stamer at (909) 382-2828.

Just another reminder that the NSIA potluck will feature a traditional corned beef boiled dinner with all of the trimmings for Monday, March 14, 2011. The potluck takes place at the Old Miller School House on 1178 Chickasaw Lane at 5:30pm.
