Highway 330 Update

Highway 330 Update
So, the latest word is that Big Bear commuter traffic with begin traveling up and down Highway 330 on Monday, April 4, 2011.

Commute times will be from 6:00am until 8:00am for down-the-hill travelers and from 4:00pm until 6:00pm for up-the-hill travelers Monday through Friday.

There will be flagging (stop and start) and no passing will be allowed. At the moment only passenger vehicles will be given access and nothing can be towed–and commercial vehicles will not be let through.

Also, there is a disclaimer that those hours could be changed for a number of reasons and that complete closures will also continue periodically until the repair project is completed.

Word around these parts is that the California Highway Patrol will be heavily monitoring the situation especially through the construction zone below Running Springs. What I did not know was that any infraction fines are doubled in the construction zone.

Now you know that I wrote about the idiot driving down the highway last Saturday, but get this, people have been getting cited on Highway 330 because they actually are driving around the road closed signs!

Seriously?

Anyway, be thankful and be hopeful that this helps everyone who has to commute but also be careful and expect delays.

Boating Permits 2011
So, the boating permits expired yesterday and the new 2011 permits must be displayed on any craft on Big Bear Lake. Permits are available from the Big Bear Municipal Water District (40524 Lakeview Drive in Big Bear Lake) but they can also be purchased from the launch ramps or marinas in the area–most of which will open today.

If you would like to renew by mail you can get the scoop here.

Stay tuned…I am expecting to have the Big Bear Fishing Report again soon!

Heating Up
So while you were enjoying the balmy 50+ degrees, it was in the upper 80s and 90s down here in the desert. Never fear though, I’ll be back up to torment you this weekend!
