MS Walk Big Bear & Other Musings

MS Walk Big Bear

ms walk big bear 2011
It is hard to believe that tomorrow will be the 7th Annual MS Walk in Big Bear. So far the last six walks have raised $500,000.00 and attracted the attention of the national office due to the fact that this community started off with a bang–breaking national fundraising records for the first event. In 2010 MS Walk in Big Bear raised $51,000 towards Multiple Sclerosis.

But the secret is, the movement started right here in Fawnskin. Funny how people forget. Lots of things happen here and tight community relationships drive them to excellence.

If you would like to participate in the MS Walk you have a couple of options. You can opt for a shorter mile walk of about a mile or a longer one of just over 3 miles. There are check points and rest stops along the way where you can have a snack or drink.

Those that participate can stop back at North Shore Elementary School (765 North Stanfield Cutoff in Big Bear Lake) to enjoy lunch, music, socializing and a lot more. There will also be an awards ceremony.

You can still register online (or onsite at the event) and help the cause and fund the effort to find a cure for multiple sclerosis. Donate funds or register at WalkMSSoCal.Org (or at the check-in table when you arrive).

BB Village Stuff
So, this weekend there will be live acoustic music over at Amangela’s Coffee & Bagel House from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday. Hank and Brad will be entertaining diners as part of a new activity at the place.

The word is that A Nightclub will be opening in another week or so and gossip on the street says that it will be more of a sports bar but also feature live music.

Rentals
Yesterday, I was out with a pal who was looking for a new rental. I was amazed at a three bedroom home for $900 but the market is pretty competitive. If you know of a place anywhere in the valley, leave me a comment with the info. She is looking for something for her and her two kids. No pets and no smoking make her a great renter.

Truck
People have been asking me about my truck, which was retired a couple of years ago. I am putting it up for sale soon at $1,000 OBO as is. I’ve had a few people make offers but nothing has come through so far. It will be posted online and stay tuned since I will be starting a GG vehicle fund as well!

Visitors
Family and friends are heading up for the weekend and GG will be playing tour guide. I tried to explain that most of the snow would be gone but they just didn’t get it. However, it will still be fun to see them and so be sure to wave at us when you see us “on tour.”

Have a great weekend!

    Hey GG,
Had a great time hiking with you, the other day, upstream to see the spawning trout. I’ll keep up my workout at Raw Fitness here in Big Bear City, so I can hike further next time. It’s a good warm up to prime oneself for spring and summer hiking adventures.

Hi Rebecca, I’ve been hiking up the trail every day and it has been great. Found a better crossing area too. I posted a suggestion for RAW to post a link to their video from their Facebook page. On the Fawnskin Flyer it costs moola to have those links featured and can be arranged via the Advertising page.
