Pontoon Boat Rental Tips

pontoon boat rental

Pontoon boat rental is a popular option because these watercraft provide plenty of room for families, are easy to operate and maneuver, and are a great way to comfortably enjoy many activities such as fishing, sightseeing, and cruising. If you are interested in renting a boat, a pontoon boat rental can be a lot of fun!

Pontoon boats differ from other types of watercraft because each consists of a stable, flat deck atop aluminum cylinders, called pontoons, instead of the typical fiberglass v-shaped hull of a powerboat. This construction provides a steady, flat surface that makes it easy to move around the boat. These vessels are normally powered by lower horsepower motors, which are more fuel-efficient and super for anyone new to boating. These benefits make renting a pontoon boat an ideal choice for family fun.

As the owner of a boat rental company myself, I often answer questions from people who are new to boating and are worried about what they might need to know about driving their rental. Below you can see the video we put together to show you some of the basics about how to drive a pontoon boat:

As you can see, operating a pontoon boat is similar in many ways to driving a car. Many of the laws carry over as well. When driving a boat, always be aware of any speed or wake restrictions, pay attention to other boats on the water, observe the same right-of-way you would on the road, and remember not to drink and drive.

Your rental company will go over the local boating laws since they vary from state to state. This is important also because there are some differences between water conditions and currents found in a harbor or marina, lakes, or the open ocean. So if you are visiting the area for the first time, make sure you are familiar with the local laws so that you can have a safe and enjoyable boating experience.
