Fawnskin Mayor Race 2011 Etc

mountain lake resortDespite the cold temperatures a lot is happening around this mountain lake resort. The big news here in Fawnskin is that the annual Honorary Mayors Race is getting underway.

However, it seems NSIA is holding out on announcing who is running until the potluck next Monday. A potluck that is scheduled to take place at Captain John’s Marina (aka Fawn Harbor) despite the cool temperatures.

Does “layer” mean anything to you?

Now Mike and Charlene Hoffman are running for Co-Mayors of Fawnskin, California because they are on it and sent me the announcement about two of their fundraising events.

In case you are new around these parts, or to the Fawnskin Flyer, the race is conducted by “votes” that used to be a quarter a vote but it now seems that inflation has hit our little mountain lake resort hard, hard, hard.

Get a glimpse of this,

each dollar raised is one vote for us with all proceeds going to Big Bear Valley charities.”

Oy!

Even so, their two events sound fun. Since the whole darn thing is crooked anyway, go to one or all of the different events for each and every candidate. The funds go the the same place and you can torment them in the process to see who can endure it the best!

Terry Cole-Whittaker
Once upon a time I used to teach classes at both the Learning Annex (the largest adult education provider in the United States) and the Learning Light. Another instructor there was Terry Cole-Whittaker who you may or may not remember.

Well, that gal is coming to town and will be in Big Bear June 10-12, 2011. You can spend almost the whole weekend soaking up her wisdom courtesy of the Bear Valley Center for Spiritual Enrichment starting on Friday.

Locals joking refer to the Miss Liberty Cruise on Friday night as the “Booze Cruise” but this time there will be music and food from 6pm until 8pm. No wild party is expected since an early pancake breakfast is planned at the Center at 7:30am on Saturday morning.

You can choose to participate in the Saturday workshop from 10am until 3pm or join the gang and Fawnskin’s own Nancy Walker at the Evergreen Restaurant in the Village of Big Bear Lake that night–or do it all!

If that wasn’t enough, on Sunday there will be a service up high on Snow Summit–just grab the sky chair for that one. This adventure includes the service, sky chair ticket, and lunch. You’ll need to get a lift by 9am or so since the service starts at 10am.

Fees vary according to the events and click here for more information or call Lorrine at (909) 866-8081.
