Road Work Warriors

road work

Neighbors on Brookside and Garden have been a bit irritated this week during all the roadwork that has been taking place. The work started last week and is just concluding.

The crews have been gracious and conscientious while the gas lines are being upgraded but the construction work is an inconvenience and loud.

If you think you lucked out, just wait. They’ll be coming to your street soon!

Not to be outdone, CalTrans crews have been actively working on Highway 18 between Baldwin Lake and the Mitsubishi Cement Plant.

Work began on Wednesday and will continue today between 9am until 6 pm. Delays from 15 minutes to 60 minutes should be expected.

Other than that, things around town have been a bit quiet. The big news was the hour long thunderstorm on Wednesday washed a good deal of pollen away.

This was a relief to many allergy sufferers and others were a bit jealous about it. In fact, my neighbor called and asked about the weather (a balmy 63 degrees F here) since it was 93 degrees F at the beach and she was pondering escape to this little mountain lake resort as an alternative.

I enjoy when she comes up and so hope she might be lured up for a visit soon. I have to say that the cloud cover and weather shift has been a welcomed relief to the summer heat we’ve had lately.

However, since this weekend is the 29th Annual Corvettes West event, many people are hoping for some sunny, warm weather.

The event begins today and ends Sunday. Neighbor Rick will be heading over for sure, and maybe if I shamelessly beg, he will share some snaps.

Corvettes will be on display on Bartlett Road in Big Bear Lake from 1:00 until 4:00pm today. On Saturday they will move over to the Big Bear City Airport from 8:00am until 3:00pm. Finally, Sunday will find those Corvettes roaming through town as they make their way around the lake.

Fawnskin usually gets a visit later in the day. Moose Lodge 2085 is one of the best viewing places around and it is known for being one of the best locations in the valley because of the responsive audience.

In fact, many of the drivers put on a special show for Fawnskin Folks because we are such a great crowd.

Now, I am going to mention this, but my disclaimer is that I am highly annoyed that the Conquer the Bear Series Paddlefest, scheduled for this weekend, was moved out of Fawnskin.

Know we know the “official statement” but I also know the not disclosed reason for the move and let me just say, it just stinks.

Anyway, this is the 4th Annual Big Bear Paddlefest and it will be held on Saturday, July 9th at Meadow Park. Races begin at 7:00am, 8:00am, 10:00am, with the child’s race at 11:00am.

As for me, I’ll be down in Running Springs and Lake Arrowhead today. Not sure what I will be up to this weekend, so if you have something exciting to share for me to do–let me know in the comments!
