Energize with Art

Cowboy Poetry Gathering
GG has been a busy girl but I wanted to let you know if you need an infusion of art–this upcoming weekend will be a good one for that here in the valley.

Cowboy Gathering

It is hard to believe that this year marks the 12th Annual Big Bear Cowboy Gathering. It starts on Thursday and take place from August 18-21, 2011 and there are evening performances at the Performing Arts Center both Friday and Saturday nights. During the days be sure to also take a stroll to enjoy the mercantile and entertainment. The Cowboy Church and breakfast on Sunday is a nice way to start the day if you are so inclined and is a relaxed change as the festival winds down.

I used to attend all the events but I’ve lost two pals who were performers so I haven’t attended as enthusiastically of late. But I have to say that The Gathering always features outstanding Western musicians, authors, storytellers and poets  and starts with a sold out Ranch Dinner and Get-Together. If you haven’t attended before, make some time to do so.

This year will feature Belinda Gail, Dennis Gaines, RW Hampton, Richard Elloyan, Nancy Lee, Sourdough Slim, Dianne Tribitt, Micheal Tcherkassky, Paul Ortuno and a variety of other vendors and entertaining folks.

For additional information call (909)709-0449. Tickets can be purchased at the PAC box office or on-line.

Art on the Lake

Another great place to feast your eyes and spend some cash is the annual Art on the Lake–which is also celebrating its 12th year. A variety of artisans attend and not only show but also sell their photography, paintings and jewelry. (GG got her pie baking dishes there along with a few other treasures.)

Anyway, you’ll find artists from around Southern California along with some popular locals. The kid’s art area is precious and there is a catered barbecue if you need some food. There is no charge to attend this event–so head on over.

Friday evening’s opening night reception will take place from 7:00pm until 9:00pm with wine and appetizers. It is great time to casually meet the artists and view their work. Saturday and Sunday hours are 10:00am until 5:00pm. Look for the white tent at the Marina Resort on the lake or for more details call (909)585-5916.

Antique Wooden Boat Show

If you are a vintage fan who drooled over the cars last weekend, then you are going to want to head down to get a gander at some of the entries at the Antique Wooden Boat Show on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 10:00am until 4:00pm at B’s Backyard BBQ (350 Alden Road, Big Bear Lake, CA). For more information call (909)844-5337.

Okay, GG has got to get back to the grind but I hope to emerge again soon!
