Fawnskin Post Office & News

fawnskin post office

The Fawnskin Post Office looks like it is getting a new roof but the weather doesn’t look like it is cooperating! It is hard to believe that October is around the corner and that it is time to start working on getting ready for winter.

GG’s been waking up earlier which usually signals that a time change is around the corner. But this year it isn’t scheduled until November 6th when the clocks are set back one hour.

Western Outdoor News Troutfest
This weekend means it is time for the Troutfest. Avid anglers will arrive to compete in the trout fishing tournament taking place on Big Bear Lake.

Each October participants work to win raffle prizes, participate in the blind bogey contest, and hope for the chance to win some of the amazing tagged fish prizes including a 2011 Ford F-150 Super Crew XLT 4X2 valued at $30,000. There will also be hundreds of additional tagged trout worth an estimated $25,000.

The lake is stocked annually with trophy-sized fish so the anglers enjoy catching good size fish. In early August the tournament was almost at 600 participants. Those first 600 entries will get something fishy–bags filled with goodies from Panther Martin, Rooster Tail, Owner Hooks, Thomas Buoyant, and YUM Troutkrilla. If you wish to participate call (949)366-0030 extension 38.

Soroptimists Mammography
The Soroptimists of Big Bear Valley and Bear Valley Community Healthcare District will provide free mammography screenings for local women who qualify through October 26th. This is great news for those who do not have insurance.

Soroptimist International encourages all womento get a mammogram screening since the National Breast Cancer Foundation has found that one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime.

For more information or to schedule you appointment, call (909) 878-8261.

Enjoy your weekend!
