Fawn Lodge Fundraiser

Fawn Lodge RestorationFawnskin Folks keep wondering about the happenings over at the Fawn Lodge.

In fact, I just had a long discussion with someone who has a background in dealing with fundraising for historic buildings, museums, etc., and hope that I can hook her up with the owners of the lodge next time they are up.

If you have not heard, there is a Fawn Lodge fundraiser on December 12, 2011 at Sonora Cantina (41144 Big Bear Blvd in Big Bear Lake) The Sonora Cantina folk are pretty generous to the community and always are up to something.

However, this is a bit confusing since the Renaissance Society Inc is also raising funds for the purchase of the Pedersen’s Saw Mill site for their organization.

Anita Pedersen donated a lot of the historic property items to the Big Bear Historical Society’s Museum. Of the many different sawmills that were operational in the Big Bear valley, the Pedersen Sawmill had the notoriety of staying in operation the longest (1920s-1960s).

When GG first moved to Fawnskin, the infamous Loggers Jubilee was held on the site.

Today, it is mostly vacant except for the Ren Faire activities and displaced transients that tent there now and again.

So mark your calendars now as the Sonora Cantina fundraiser for Fawn Lodge will take place on Monday, December 12th from 11:00am until 9:00pm.

You can munch on the  .99 cent taco and enjoy drawings as well.

GG hopes they start a specific fundraising account for direct donations since I want to be sure funds will go right to the restoration and not to the Ren Faire.

NSIA Thanksgiving Potluck & Food Drive
All Fawnskin residents are invited to bring a friend, neighbor, relative or guest and join the fun at the North Shore Improvement Association’s monthly potluck.

November means it will be a Thanksgiving feast complete with all of the fixins’ provided by NSIA. Attendees are asked to contribute appetizers, relishes, salads, hot vegetable dishes, or desserts.

Hmm, maybe GG needs to show up with persimmon pie or cookies…

Plans are to play Bingo after dinner at $1 per card. Bring a fist full of dollars to join in.

Remember to bring a dish and plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00pm at the Old Miller School House located at 1178 Chickasaw Lane in Fawnskin.

If you need more information or have any questions please call Chris at (310) 880-3645.

I hope the food drive continues throughout the year. People are hungry year round, not just at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Where do I drop off a donation?

NSIA donates to different groups all year long. The post mentioned that the goods needed to be brought to the potluck. Most of it is going over to St Josephs and I am sure you can drop your items there without a problem. Most of the pantry services up here are affiliated with religious groups. Hoping to write a bit about options up here–but maybe you want to do a guest post? Hint, hint…LOL

Please pardon the Bear for being a skeptic, however, as I read that a group wants to both, purchase prime property and restore the old Fawn Lodge, that’s a WHOLE lot of tacos.
At .99cents each, that’s a lot of frijoles

LOL Yeah, I hear ya. Which is why I’d rather donate to a specific fund instead.
