Charlie with Gwen

Okay, so no big news except that Charlie came back up to Fawnskin for a visit.

The Fawnskin Flyer first reported on celebrity Charlie’s first visit back in October.

This time he was too active for GG to get a good snap so this one will have to do.

Plans for him to snowshoe, ski or snowboard and other activities were discussed.

We need to start a pool to see just how old he will be when this begins to happen!

Now, before I go any further, let me clear something up.

Contrary to what you might be thinking, GG is NOT a slacker since I am posting so late.

The truth is that this week has been pretty darn busy and then the snow fall got me out shoveling–followed by a mad dash to the grocery store before the holiday onslaught arrives.

At least we hope it arrives.

The good news is that we missed the crowds since most locals seemed to have hit the stores yesterday.

AND, only a few visitors arrived early–so we had the place to ourselves for about two minutes.

Then, shoppers started trickling in because it had finally stopped snowing and the sun was peaking through–as you can see by my stunning breaking news photo above.

Now yesterday, I hunkered down and worked until I was cranky.

Happily, my neighbors are up for the week. And so, I marched up the stairs and demanded tea and a slice of avocado pie as a reward and an excuse to visit and have a break.

Now you might be thinking, “Ick! Avocado pie?”

Yeah, that is what I thought but despite what you might think, it tastes like key lime pie and is yummy despite how it might sound.

Now it is lucky that I have friends and neighbors that “make” me do normal things like watch TV shows like American Idol.

You see, I usually find better things to do with my time than watch television.

However, it is good for GG to know what normal people find interesting.

It is also good to see just how society is plummeting into hell changing and to be alert as to some of the newer trends as to what people find amusing or entertaining.

Shouldn’t I be happy to experience at least one show of some sort now and again?

So, after the suspenseful hour, I decided to work off the pie by shoveling off my deck and the entire two flights of stairs plus the landing.

Yep, 44 stairs at 9:00pm.

My neighbor thought I was crazy but it made perfect sense to me since I’ve been in the cabin for a couple of days without ambling outside.

Is there something wrong with me that I found it refreshing and satisfying?

Uh, don’t answer that.

But really, I needed some exertion and figured it was better to shovel right then instead of this morning since I expected more accumulation…and I was right!

How is that for a non-meteorologist?

Here at GG’s Grotto, we got between 1.5-2.0 feet of snow.

Of course, we are at about 7,000 feet or so, but do tell–how much did you get?

Shoveling today was pretty quick and easy since I had already removed over a foot last night.

GG is smart!

Then, yippee-skippee, the road was plowed and so I was able to easily amble down to the Post Office in time to see the mail truck finally arrive.

When we have lots of snow, the trucks get delayed and sometimes are stopped entirely down around Running Springs.

PM Mike made sure to tell me what was going on.

The other news is that locals have still been taking sweet treats down to the Post Office.

So, there were some nicely decorated cookies there today.

But no snacks after that pie…and GG needs to remind you that there will be no mail on Monday since it is an official holiday–President’s Day.

Take care if you are driving since the non-highway roads were slick and the freeze tonight will make it likely to be so again.

GG thinks it is good that a lot of us have hunkered down for the duration to avoid the crowds and the amusing ice bumper cars.

Now, I have to mention that Bob Varga, our own favorite snow plow operator (and valued advertiser here on the flyer) earned a lot of brownie points when he showed up to help the neighbor clear the berm blocking the SUV access to the road.

Thanks Bob–you are a gem and you made that guy pretty darn happy.

He is gonna be blabbing to everyone that will listen–how is that for WOM (word of mouth) marketing?
