Moose Lodge 2085 Yard Sale

There are a lot of different types of lunatics out there and for some reason they have been coming out in force this 4th of July holiday.

My sister, who is a mortician at a hospital, says she always knows when it is a full moon based on the suicides and other aberrant behavior that occurs around it.

So, outside of the full moon kayaking, there were signs of it throughout town and despite my staying home where I thought it was safe, I had to call the sheriff again.

Must be a record, calling the sheriff twice in a week and a half? At least law enforcement knows how to find me now!

At one time people told me you had to be an independent mind or a renegade to live in Fawnskin but maybe it is time for a corollary to that theory.

Camping Fawnskin

Down on the lake, Fire State 96 had to tell the campers on the private property (wonder if was the owners or trespassers) to put out a fire. Despite the ban on all shoreline fires of all types, and a fine of $1,000, these people fired it up anyway.

Their barking dogs weren’t appreciated either but at least they were restrained. Hopefully they will be gone soon and I have ear plugs if they aren’t.

And you wonder why most locals look forward to surviving the holidays and the quiet time following them?

In town, the Moose Lodge 2085 yard sale got a late start but despite a slow start with donations, they had a bunch more by the time I took a look. When I donated half my shed contents, the collection was sparse, so I was glad to see that it had changed.

The big news? Someone took out the 25MPH speed sign…not that anyone adheres to it anyway!

Fawnskin Speed Limit

There were a few other yard sales around town. Each was small but had some great items for sale. However, I am still looking for a replacement crock pot.

The happy news of the week is that I got the scoop on a neighbor that a good Samaritan helped. Sometimes you miss the good deeds people do around here and God bless him and those who are helping out.

Seriously, it was an amazing story. Not one I’ll write about but if you ask me, I’ll cough up the story for you.

It was good to see a few neighbors up for the holiday. I haven’t spent a lot of time socializing but might if they are still here over the next day or too.

As far as happenings around town, I already covered them but in case you forgot:

Moose Lodge 2085 BBQ
The annual Moose Lodge 2085 BBQ will take place about 4pm on July 7, 2012. Always a great meal at a great price so stop on by downtown Fawnskin.

On July 7th-8th it will be time for the 4th Annual Big Bear Lake PaddleFest. No longer held in Fawnskin, join the fun at Meadow Park/Swim Beach (41220 Park Avenue in Big Bear Lake, CA). Enrollment $30-$65 online or $50-$85 onsite.

Fawnskin Games
This weekend means it is time for the next Mayoral Games held at Fawn Park each Sunday. Hopefully you’ve sharpened your skills or learned to play some of the games. This Sunday, July 8th is the first Olympic Competition. Space is limited so contact Mike or Char at (909) 866-9219.

North Shore Improvement Monthly Potluck
Monday, July 9, 2012 means it is time for the monthly potluck. If you are a new resident, or an old timer, head on down to Captain John’s Marine & Fawn Harbor around 5:30pm for socializing. Bring a dish to share–the food line starts at 6:00pm.

It is always a good place to catch up with neighbors and news. Plus, summer is awesome on the lake this time of year!

I’ll be back at ‘cha on Tuesday!
