Party Perch Hawk
Since last week things have seemed a bit quiet around here. Out on the party perch I’ve been watching an assortment of avian predators over Grout Bay.

My favorite tends to be the Osprey but perched nearby or soaring over my head on a daily basis are the Red Tail Hawk, Red Shouldered Hawk and a Cooper’s Hawk.

They take turns patrolling and I like that one of them lands on the roost to peer in.

Seriously, everytime I move to get a camera shot, it startles her and she flies away but I at least got this snap although my flash went off and I had to edit so you can see her better.

The NSIA potluck featured a speaker from DOVES. October is dedicated to education about domestic violence and the annual fundraiser for the Domestic Violence Education & Services in Big Bear is this weekend.

Starry Starry Night will take place at Robertson Hangar at the Big Bear City Airport (501 Valley Blvd). Tickets $50 per person or $375 for table of 8. For tickets and more information please call (909) 866-1546.

Flashlight Zoo Safari
Over at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo (43285 Goldmine Drive) visitors can take a flashlight safari to view the active nocturnal animals. Gates will open at 6:15pm and close at 6:30pm for the tour. Bring your own flashlight and wear warm clothes. Regular Admission rates apply (Under 3 years old free, ages 3-10 $6.00, and over 10 years of age $9.00.) For more information call (909) 584-1299.

Big Bear Mortuary Re-Opening
Some of you know my sister is a mortician so when I heard about the Big Bear Mortuary re-opening, I thought I should share it. The event will take place both Friday and Saturday.

Join the festivities on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 1:00pm until 6:00pm and Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 9:00am until 11:00am. You are invited to meet the new manager. In case you do not know, Big Bear Mortuary is located at 321 W. Big Bear Blvd in Big Bear City.

That’s it for me this week!

Hi …. Will you please post again for the Wednesday meeting? Thanks!
Post Office Community Meeting – Fawnskin PO

The Postal Service has established a review process for certain Post Offices know as the POST Plan. The Postal Service will hold a meeting to answer questions and provide information about POST Plan. At the meeting, local management will share the results of the survey and answer questions. Although survey results will be known and shared, the Postal Service will not make a final decision regarding the Fawnskin Post Office until after the public meeting. This will enable the Postal Service to obtain all community input and opinions from the surveys, as well as from the meeting before making a final decision.
