Stopping Crime in Fawnskin

Crime Fighting Team Panel

GG actually headed down to Fire Station 96 on Saturday for the Town Hall Meeting in Fawnskin. The crime fighting team/panel of speakers were both informative and humorous.

A wave of burglaries throughout the valley has been of serious concern but it is not the first time it has happened. About three years ago, five homes on the North Shore were burglarized in a systematic manner.

Once again, over the past month or so an estimated 15-20 homes have been hit in the local area. Neighbors have stepped up efforts to fight crime by stopping unfamiliar folks and investigating.

Over sixty people attended this session and many of the attendees had experienced home burglaries themselves.

The panel spoke to a standing room only crowd, sharing updates on the facts and tips on how to fight and stop crime.

J King was most entertaining, making the harsh topic a little more palatable by inserting humor in between updates and tips.

The Citizen Patrol was also on hand to update neighbors on options to have them conduct home checks during absences and to update locals on their activities and role as vital assistance to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department here in the Big Bear Valley.

Also present were the Third District Supervisor’s representative Joseph Turner. Turner will be working to get the word out to all property owners throughout Fawnskin so that all property owners will be aware of the situation and can take steps to actively thwart crime.

Matthew Merrill of American Home Alarms shared tips on how to network with neighbors and some of the nuances of alarm installations in the unique valley terrain.

He also made a very generous offer to waive set-up fees with a minimum number of people who install alarms as well as making the offer to pay for the Neighborhood Watch signs.

GG took breaking news action video and will be posting segments throughout the week.

Special thanks needs to go to Suzi and her team for their hard work in putting this meeting together in just a week.
