First Real Snow | GG ‘s TOT

Fawnskin Snow

GG feels pretty snug since yesterday was spent prepping for the snow.

Chores were done, holiday cards mailed and outdoor rugs safely stored.

The best part is that I made my fast and fabulous crock pot chili verde which is ready for consumption.

The motivation to make it was to honor of my neighbor Mike who kindly helped me get to and fro for errands. I am coming out of the relapse but it has been frustrating and his help was invaluable since I get so fatigued.

However, I am definitely not going to deliver it, he is going to have to pick it up!

Although we had one early storm back in October, this is the first real snow storm and since I’ve been spending a lot of time out on the deck in warm weather, it is both welcome and disappointing.

Welcome because may of the seasonal resorts and businesses need the snowfall but disappointing because I so love being out on my deck in the sun enjoying myself.

Tickle, the black and white cat who belongs to my neighbor, also loves it on my deck. He likes the rocking chair, or to nap on my foot in between bird watching.

Despite the fact it is 34 degrees (warm for snow), we expect between six inches to a foot to fall.

Figures, I have to go down the hill tomorrow for a medical follow up tomorrow!

Wish me luck.

Wat Big Bear First Ordained Monks & Novices

Bobby Returns to Civilian Life

Bobby, one of the three monks ordained at the Wat Dhammasujitto Buddhist Meditation Temple will return to his civilian life this month.

You might not recognize him as he no longer is wearing the traditional robes.

Prior to Ordination | Monk & Novices

Service in the Vipassana Dhura Society can be for a specific time and does not have to be for a life time. The young boys served as Novices last year and then returned to their normal life.

It has been great to have Bobby as a neighbor and I am sure Ajahn Sombat will miss him, I know I will.

Best wishes and please visit often!

Fawnskin Pie Day

Once again it is time for the annual Fawnskin Post Office Pie Day. This is a day where neighbors get together to share pie and coffee and catch up prior to Christmas.

This year it will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 10:00am until uh, nobody really knows.

Most neighbors show up around 11am since the mail tends to be mostly up by then.

Drop off your favorite pie or cookies and take some time to visit and catch up.

Hope to see you there.

In years past, locals have also delivered baked goods to share the entire week preceding Pie Day, so GG invites you to do so.

Hmm, I know I have that persimmon cookie recipe somewhere…

Christmas Caroling Party

Moose Lodge 2085 goes crazy caroling. Mark your calendars to join the fun on Thursday, December 16, 2012 at 5:00pm.

Enjoy the snow, drive safe and I’ll catch up with you next week!

Thanks for your note Jay. Jack was around all day yesterday flapping around Grout Bay. For me, the low temp is not normal but appreciate your opinion. The red wing blackbirds showed up on the 4th, which was a bit disturbing as they only show back up during spring. However, today we are having lots of snow and the party perch is a happening place with at least 100 birds on deck.
