Dumpsters, Bugs & TOT

Dumpster Day Fawnskin

GG forgot to rant about the bugs the other day because she gets distracted and plain forgets.

So, in case you didn’t notice, just as the blooms began to open, the bugs turned up in force.

They get in your eyes and buzz around your head and although they are a vital part of the forest and lake equation, they just can bug ya!

Of course the spiders will be spinning their most sticky webs and I’ll be okay with that for a bit because I’d rather they eat up those flying insects.

Ants were the first crawling things to arrive–but I never have as much trouble as some of the neighbors.

Speaking of which, we have had some new folks move to town.

Over on Chickasaw, Joan moved out and a new neighbor moved in.

On Brookside, a new couple took residence near the junction of Lodge.

Since I first took residence here the entire area has changed from mostly part-time residents to a lot of full-timers.

I had a chat with long time resident recently who told me that back in the old days (1970s) it was mostly drug users and a less positive environment.

At one time Fawnskin was mostly home owners, but these days there are a lot more renters due to the economic changes and the hardships that came with them.

Beautify Fawnskin

Fawnskin benefits from the dedication of all the different individuals and associations that are here.

One local business woman, Candy Hallstead, arranges an annual beautification day by bringing in dumpsters for locals who desire to clean up their properties and garages.

This year the date is Saturday, May 18th 2013 from 9:00am until 3:00pm.

Just show up with your goods and she’ll even help you unload.

The event takes place behind the Fawn Lodge in town.

MS Walk

Just a heads up that this Saturday, May 4th is the Big Bear MS Walk.

GG has not been able to attend due to health stuff but is pondering about heading over this year as I am doing pretty fair–it is exciting.

However, I’ve been busy and pushing hard so perhaps it would be prudent to do a bit of resting instead.

I’d love to have some snaps of the event so if you are going, keep me in mind and you could be made the unofficial correspondent for the day!

If you want to join an existing team, or start one, click here but you can also sign up right then and there.

BTW if you participate in the event, don’t forget to head over to our Moose Lodge 2085 for the spaghetti dinner.

The after party is free for those who participate–so drop by and join the fun.

Hot Dog!

GG was out snooping again and word on the main drag through town is that the hot dog place (formerly known as Hog’s Haven) will be proceeding.

I peered in the window and didn’t see much happening though.

Also, one of the sale signs is still up. I called Dale to confirm but am waiting for that call back.

Okay, that is it for the TOT but I’ll be back with you on Tuesday.
