Shabbat Evening Services with B’nai Big Bear will take place Friday, June 14th at 6:30pm. Bring your favorite dish to share.

Services will start promptly and will be held at the Old Miller School House located at 1178 Chickasaw Lane in Fawnskin.

Friends of Fawnskin

The Friends of Fawnskin Walk-a-thon is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2013.

Pre-registration, sponsorships and donations can be made online at Friends of Fawnskin Walkathon or by phone at (909) 878-3091.

Sign-in at the event will take place from 8:00am until 10:00am.

This year the event will be a “Walk for Big Bear Valley” and benefit 23 local nonprofit organizations.

There are three Alpine Pedal Path walkathon options:
“Love to Walk,” 9.2 miles;
“Casual Walker,” 5 miles;
and “I’ll Watch from Here,” 0 miles.

All participants, even those who choose the “I’ll watch from here” option, will received an event T-shirt, snacks and water.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three individuals and the top three teams who bring in the most donations. There are also prizes for completing the route and for visiting each of the Partner Organization booths.

Register as an individual or as a team member and designate a specific nonprofit to receive the registration fee and donations, or choose to have the funds shared with all Partner Organizations.

Zoo Photo Contest

Photographers may want to get out this Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 10:00am until 4:00pm and visit the Alpine Zoo (43285 Goldmine Drive in Big Bear Lake, CA).

If you haven’t heard, the Friends of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo are holding the 7th Annual Alpine Zoo Photography Contest. Entries will be judged on technical quality, originality, and artistic merit. Entry categories are professional, intermediate, amateur and youth (ages 18 and under).

Regular zoo admission will apply to all photographers and throughout the day animals will be brought out to the presentation green for special photo opportunities.

Guidelines are:

  • Photos must be taken at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo or an offsite program presented by the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.
  • All photos must have been from January 1, 2013 to August 1, 2013.
  • You must mail the Contest Entry Form with the $20 registration fee (entry form available online or at the zoo) with your CD/DVD by August 1, 2013.
  • You can submit up to 10 photos.

The winners will have their pictures featured in the upcoming 2014 Big Bear Alpine Zoo calendar, and as a “thank you” for supporting the Big Bear Alpine Zoo, all participants will receive a copy of the calendar.
