Summer Games Plus

Summer Games Fawnskin

NSIA Update

So, I did not get an update as to the current mayor’s race but this Sunday, July 14, 2013 there will be “summer games.”

Scheduled from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Fawn Park, locals are invited to bring family, friends and favorite beverage and join your neighbors to play croquet, bocce, horseshoes, Mexican horseshoes, rope toss, bean bag toss, golf billiards and Mexican train.

GG isn’t one for games but report back if you are!

Old Miners Chili Cookoff

The Old Miners Association Chili Cookoff will be held this Saturday, July 13, 2013. It is sanctioned by the International Chili Society and will be held at the Bartlett parking lot in the Village of Big Bear Lake from 10:00am to 6:00pm.

In addition to the chili competitions, there will be live live music, vendors, and activities for kids. Plus, locals might like the Miss Chili Pepper and Mr. Hot Stuff competition.

GG isn’t too sure if the afternoon outhouse races will be appreciated since it has been so hot.

Admission is free but chili tasting kits are $5. For more information call Mark “Mr. Chili” Gaines at (909) 363-6592.

Bluegrass Festival

Starting tomorrow, the Old Miners Association will also hosts the Big Bear Bluegrass Festival which takes place Friday, July 12, 2013 through Sunday, July 14 2013.

Bluegrass bands will be playing at different locations and some will be free of charge on Friday. On Saturday evening there will be a ticketed event at The Cave on Village Drive in Big Bear Lake.

If you are looking for something fun to do on Sunday morning, join the bluegrass brunch and paddle wheel cruise aboard Miss Liberty, or get into bluegrass workshops or enjoy bluegrass on the beach.

The Big Bear Lions Club Big Bear Lions and the Sunset Lions Club of Big Bear is sponsoring a free health fair, in collaboration with Bear Valley Community Hospital along with the Crestline Lioness, Arrowbear Lake Lions, and Lucerne Valley Lions. The Mountain Communities Health Fair is set for Saturday, July 13 at the Elks Lodge (40611 Village Drive), from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Everything at the fair will be free to all participants. This includes hearing, vision, and dental screenings by licensed professionals, raffles, coloring books promoting health, a bounce house, hot dogs and popcorn and tons of information from exhibitors.

Bear Valley Community Hospital will have resources and information about various programs offered by the hospital, including MediCal assistance, nutrition, diabetes, hypertension, physical therapy, services offered at both rural health clinics and the Mom & Dad project.

A wide variety of exhibitors will be on hand presenting information and educational options about traditional and alternative health care, assistance and other related topics.
