Changes in Fawnskin

Change is in the air around Fawnskin.

Locals are a bit postal once again due to the change in staffing at the Fawnskin Post Office.

Layney is the clerk assigned from Bear City Post Office and she and Post Master Ron Ward were both on hand this am.

GG has mixed feelings about the change, and some folks have been downright rude to the new clerk–which isn’t going to work in your favor in the long run.

Layney said she is happy to be here but so far the experience has been mixed.

Fawnskin Folks have been spoiled and will now have to endure the hour change which are now indeed 9:30am until 4:30pm.

GG forgot that with the change in staffing that there would be a change in service, so after lugging a package down to ship this am, I had to go back down to ship since the counter was closed.

Luckily I was able to have coffee with Hope, who had hauled her kayak out of the lake and was heading back to the cabin about that time.

I was mortified that the package cost more to ship than it was worth and that options were not discussed with me until after the fact.

We are all used to the extra care and service that has been standard here in our small town, and today was a reminder that this may or may not be the experience again moving forward.

Anyway, Ron Ward is the person to contact with any issues as the sign says on the door.

Fawnskin Mayor Race

Honorary Mayor Candidate Debbie Kanner will again host another fundraiser at the Moose Lodge this Sunday, August 25th from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. This is Debbie’s last fundraiser for NSIA. The cost is $8.00 for the meal which includes meatball sandwiches, potato salad, watermelon and a surprise dessert.

Captain John’s series of Joke Off sessions will culminate with a session this Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 6:00 PM.

Entry fees are $15.00 for unlimited or $5.00 per each night or $1.00 per joke. Of course, you can donate more if you like and visitors are welcome to come in and throw money in the pot.

Captain John will be the master of comedy for this very competition with nightly winners who bring and share the best jokes will receive gift certificates from local retailers.

Big Bear Air Fair

Locals and visitors alike are getting ready for the Big Bear Air Fair to be held this Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 9:00am until 4:00pm at Big Bear Airport L35 in Big Bear City.

Christmas Store To Resurrect

GG was happy to be out and find a shop open after 5:00pm. Tracey and her daughter Ashley were hard at work in the village.

It will be a week Saturday that they took over ownership of the Christmas Store with plans to restore it to its former glory.

What you might not know is that the two also are the proprietors of Home Baked Beanies, a unique knitted series of hats that are soon to be featured on the Home Shopping Network if all goes as planned.

Here is a video showing a celebrity getting excited over the creations.

What we liked was that not only did we get a good deal on our beanies, but also got to pick a prize–you see you get one with select purchases.

Plus, we just had a good time visiting and supporting local merchants.

Okay, so that is it for GG this week. Hope to be back on Tuesday!
