NSIA Holiday Party & More!

Party!
The holiday party was fun but many of you were missing! Volunteers spent a couple of hours decorating the Old Miller School giving it a great festive flair. No live music this year and Todd served as the music maestro with his remote! The gift exchange was tame compared to last year, but it still was a hoot. A few snaps are below.

Clean Up Your Act?!
The clean-up downtown has been temporarily delayed. The owner of the condemed property, despite free labor and dumpster, does not want to pay for the dump fees! Hmmm, perhaps he doesn’t know how lucky he might be. I heard the country charges $52 per hour for cleanup, then add container fees, hauling charges, and then dump fees.

I think he is being a bit short sighted. Just a reminder that the town beautification is a priority around here. I bet he will have to eventually comply one way or another.

Adopt A Highway
However, the Moose Lodge Adopt-A-Highway will still commence. They could use a hand on Saturday the 17th. Just show up at the Lodge at 10am. We walkers have been picking up some of the trash thrown onto the highway by vistors last weekend and if you can lend a hand our little town could use it!

Helping Hands
Sister Annette is up to her good deeds again with “Helping Hands of Fawnskin.” This effort will assist those who have a disability or who are at least 65 years of age by helping clear berms and driveways this winter. The project is a free service but qualified residents need to fill out a form. Donations will be accepted (to help with fuel costs). Call Sister Annette at 866-3936 for more info.

Speaking of Berms
I mentioned the berm stuff before but you should have received those nice little notices from the county in your mailboxes recently. “Snowplows, cinder spreading and property damage” and “Tips to help yourself during the snow season” were sent out by the Board of Supervisors and the Department of Public Works.

If you don’t have a copy, email our County Supervisor via the link to the right.

In the meantime, the yard number for Big Bear (Yard 9) is 909.866.2167. You can reach a road yard supervisor from 7 or 7:30am until 3 or 3:30pm. (Good luck!)

Emergency calls should go to the Department of Public Works at 909.387.8063 or via the County Communications Center 909.365.3805.

I am sure I am forgetting something…

Snaps!
Below are some of the photos Rick took at the potluck.

Tsunami Anniversary & Animal Planet

Hmmm, I just read that I am going to be on Animal Planet Canada tomorrow December 12, 2005. Discovery’s Tsunami: Animal Instincts will air at 9pm EST. I wonder what footage they have…I filmed a PBS segment but don’t remember this one!

In the meantime, I may be off to film with National Geographic this week on another special program so stay tuned.

Buy Your Holiday Tree in Fawnskin

Just a reminder that the Fawnskin Chamber of Commerce is selling Christmas Trees in town. You can get locally grown trees here in town in front of the Fawnskin Realty office. Be sure to stop by–and if you don’t live in Fawnskin–take a jaunt over because North Shore Trading Company and the Fawnskin Antique Shop have some great and unusual gifts. You can grab a cup of hot cocoa and dine on some of the best food in the valley while you are here–and the best part is that you can avoid the crowds of the South Shore!
