Okay, December 17th is the day this town is cleaning up. Not only does the Moose Lodge Adopt-A-Highway clean up occur beginning at 10am but a bunch of locals are going to clean up the lot next to the Fawnskin Market on the same day.
I don’t know that I’ve mentioned it before but the North Shore Improvement Association and the Fawnskin Chamber have been discussing cleaning up the town. Efforts have already been underway. So, if you want to help out either project on the December 17th just show up downtown at 10:00am!
I got word this week that the county said we have to live with the problems caused by the berms unless we are ready to pay additional assessments. How is that for an answer? NSIA representatives met with Mary Patterson, Cal Trans and the County road guys to chat about the issue and I got an earful a couple of days ago.
As usual, I’ve been locked in my home working on the book. I enjoyed the brief weather change and still am enjoying the lack of white stuff on the ground as I am ambling every morning. However, the ice was pretty bad a couple of days ago when it rained a bit.
Not much else to share except tonight is the Texas Hold’em fundraiser for Captain John. The event at NS Cafe went well with about 20 people showing up for dinner. Most of you know that Chef Richard doesn’t do dinners any more so it was a real treat.
Well, for those of you who did not make it to the annual holiday tree lighting–you missed a great time. Photos below are by Rick!

The famous Fawnskin Holiday Tree at Fire Station 49…look hard and you can see the kid’s decor hanging at the bottom (decorated pine cones)

This year’s festivities included pine-cone oranament making by the kids. I think it is sweet to see all the low hung ornaments on the tree. Also, the lights are only on the street side, so when the tree gets lit up–you get a chuckle if you are not in the right place because it looks like only half the tree is lit! The gang showed up for hot cocoa, coffee, chili and hot dogs. Thanks to all the guys who pulled this together. The big event was funded by local part-time resident, Don. (Hope I got that right but I am sure you all will let me know if I am wrong.)
Also, Steve Cawsey worked hard to get it going. Thanks to all. Also, checks were awarded to Fire Station 49 for the “kids go shopping” program. NSIA, Moose Lodge 2085, and Fawnskin Realty all forked over the dough. The selected kids get to have a shopping spree locally and many buy for family members.
If you would like to support Captain John’s race for mayor his events are coming up! Call him at 866-6478 for details.
December 7th at North Shore Cafe. The special dinner runs from 5-8pm.
December 10th at Mandarin Garden. This even will be a Texas Hold’em Tournament. Event begins promptly at 6pm $25.00 to buy in.
December 17th at the Discovery Center. Attend the concert with some of your favorite local bands to sing old tunes and holiday favorites. There will be hot cider, hot chocolate, and other christmas goodies. Call for the time.
BTW: Guess who is on the way to sing at the United Nations this week? Give up? Fawnskin’s own Nancy Walker!
