Remember that sailboat that was stuck in the ice this last winter? Many of us tensely watched as it continued to collect snow day after day until it finally flopped over due to the weight. Well, I am happy to report that Captain John went out with a crew and hauled it into his marina this afternoon.
The boat will be righted it and for the moment it has been hauled in and is moored inside Fawn Harbor. I don’t think it is great advertising from the viewer’s standpoint–but from the good-hearted stand point—it is. I think Captain John is a hidden treasure here in Fawnskin. Apparently the owner has been battling cancer and Captain John has taken it upon himself to help the guy out by retrieving the boat.
Hummers To Arrive Saturday Okay, don’t go there… This Saturday at least 40 Hummers will arrive in Fawnskin for adventures up to Butler Peak. Another 15 or so may arrive on Sunday. Bill Taylor from Weseloh & Sons (Chevrolet/Hummer) dropped by today from San Juan Capistrano to give us the scoop.
Did you know that Hummer has partnered with the Red Cross? They are conducting training sessions for Hummer owners so they can help with disaster rescue. The trained drivers can get into areas inaccessible by most police and other rescue vehicles. Hummer has partner up to help and I’ll post the official press release when I get it.
Wow, can’t keep up as usual! Here are the results from the Texas Hold’em Tournament on Sunday:
1st Place Gary Finell (aka Goo Man) 2nd Place Damon Nichols 3rd Place Mark Hodcroft 4th Place Greg Benson 5th Place Betty Conroy 6th Place Glenna Cyr
Beware of the Bear Not only do we have a cougar in town but a bear has been sighted out behind Cedar Dell. Don’t be stupid and feed it. Let the local predators alone. We don’t want them habituated to humans.
New Businesses in Fawnskin Inquiring minds want to know… The Russ Humphreys building in town (next to the old historic post office) has been taken over by Tammy and Rich of Big Bear City. They have moved to town and are going to operate their wood furniture business from here. Their dog is a big pup named Kemo. Say hi when you see them out there.
Also, the old realty office is rented (according to rumors) to a caterer. So, drop by and say hello if you get a chance.
Not Diggin’ Cal Trans on Highway 38 I think I mentioned that Cal Trans is moving all the old dirt they piled near the hwy months ago. They are grading the sides of the highway but in the process have blocked out many of the natural drain areas with big dirt berms. I hope they correct this so we don’t have more flooding problems this winter. With the recent rains you’d think they’d pay attention and keep the natural drain paths open. ..especially after the problems last winter.
It never ceases to amaze me about how so much goes on around here. I got the scoop early Sunday but you may not have heard that a Fawnskin resident was charged with three counts of felony on Friday, September 23, 2005. Bail was set for $20,000. You can view the booking log here.
Also, Fawnskin’s resident cougar was seen again behind the North Shore Cafe this weekend. Richard went out to investigate his dog’s alert bark and low and behold he found himself eye to eye with the critter. Anyway, the cat ran off but please take this animal seriously. The cat probably won’t do you any harm but don’t set up the circumstances for any incidences. Be diligent and use care in the early morning and evening hours–and late at night.
