MS Walk Big Bear Update

Just a quick note to let you know that the MS Walk Big Bear numbers are still climbing. Today the figure was US$64, 151. We have until June 22nd to raise more moola and it still is coming in. If you want to help hit the 100,000 goal drop a check off to the Moose Lodge.

Speaking of Moose Lodge…there is no longer a smoking room. At taco night the bar filled up and the tables contained a good crowd. Yum, good tacos and good laughs all around!

Avid kayakers were out on the water today and I’ve noticed a host of boats out on the lake. I’ll be out on the water in the am after my walk. I’m happy to be back in Fawnskin where my allergies seem to be better.

Numbers Up

I am still waiting on an update for the MS Walk figures. Shortly after the walk over 60,000 had been collected. Locals speculate that the final totals will be between 70-80,000. Loni–you promised me an update. Give me a call when you get another figure!

BIG news that has locals talking is that the Moose Lodge went totally non-smoking as of about a week ago. The private lodge does not allow smoking at anytime–except in the smoking room, and certainly not in the patio during meals. This will be good news to many nonsmokers, like myself, who have stayed away specifically because of the smoking.

Mark, soon-to-be the new owner of the Fawnskin Market is scheduled for an interview this week. I am not sure if I will hold back the print issue until after that or not. Let me know what you think.

Don’t forget that today is the “Tea for Zoo” tour through ten of the local bed and breakfast businesses around town. I’ll be up at the Stargazer’s Inn with some other artisans.

Spring has sprung and I seem to be experiencing allergies this year! Yikes! I hope it is just the place I’ve been staying, but maybe not. The last time I had such trouble up here was in the early 1990′s when the pine trees went crazy along with all the other plants after excessive rainfall.

Barking Dogs
On the east end of the valley a bunch of dogs were barking, barking, barking last night and this morning. Wonder what is up. My pal suggested an earthquake…hmmm.

On the Fawnskin side neighbors are stewing over the dog who is regularly tied outside of a local restaurant and left to bark incessantly…and over the roaming dog crew. Pet owners, be warned that you are in violation of local ordinances and I’ve been told that these neighbors will be reporting you if you don’t comply soon.

On that note, I heard that dog man went after a new resident. The new resident also happens to be an officer! The guy asked dog man to keep his dogs under control and at home. Boy is there some tension brewing! I wonder what makes so many people think they are exempt from the rules around here…

Flying in Fawnskin

Hey Gang! Lots is going on and the next issue of the flyer will be out shortly. I had to pull them out of the market today since Doris will no longer be operating the store as of Monday. I am going to check on getting another distribution point but in the meantime you can get them at the Moose Lodge.

Fawn Park
Big news today is that the Fawn Park received a beautiful new sign. The wood carver was working on it this afternoon and the carved critter is lovely. Also, the workout stations are finally up. Go check it out.

On the west side of town, Creekside Cafe is undergoing steady work. The menu is pretty extensive to meet the tastebuds and requests of locals. Both upscale items and hearty fare will be served. I am looking forward to great coffee. Rumor has it that they will also offer bike rentals. We kayaking fiends will be paddling up the creek…at the moment we are waiting for the fish to start arriving.

On the east end of town, Fawnskin antiques will be morphing into a mall. Carol and Ernie have remodeled and anticipate opening the rest of the building to consignors by June 1.

Get ready for June 3rd because Fawnskin will be hopping. The local biker club is hosting their run at the Moose Lodge and down at Fawn Harbor the Pirate Faire will be entertaining other folks.

Also, I heard that a film crew is expected to show up in the valley with Nicolas Cage. I believe Paramount is filming, “Next.” At the moment they are over at the Cliffhanger (which has been purchased and will be reopening) near Crestline.

I’ve got a couple of items for bad behavior for the upcoming print issue–so be on the lookout!
